Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay in any of the major chains. I stopped in KC in a Marriott on the way back from CO. They sanitized the room with extra cleaning. The occupancy seemed to be 30% or so, essentially zero problem practicing social distancing. This was 10 days ago and I’m still fine:)

Cheers

I had a business trip about a month ago. I took sanitizing wipes and wiped things down. I chose to not have housekeeping service so it was only me in the room. I think after the initial wipe down it was as safe as at home

If traveling due to necessity, is it safe to stay in a hotel

Probably safe enough. Keep in mind that some hotels will be housing non-infected people that were ordered to self quarantine before they go home from a hospital if they live in a multifamily like a condo. Supposedly, the guest is to reveal their situation at check in but I doubt they do.

I personally would feel safer in a AirBNB home. You only need to worry about the owners/cleaners and the prior guests. With hotels, it is harder to practice social distancing... in elevators, while eating, in the lobby, etc.

Our oldest DS who is a project mgr for a major North American wide disaster restoration company is going crazy with organizing crews to do disinfecting cleans of public areas (not individual rooms unless specifically directed to) of many hotel and motel chains. His company started offering their professional services when the virus started and was immediately inundated with requests. They are also doing grocery stores, banks and other institutions at night that need to remain open.

We just returned from our March trip from Alabama. We stayed two nights in hotels along the way. We were pleased with the ability of using digital keys at the Hilton brand hotels. Not needing to stop at the front desk for key cards for check in or check out was beneficial.

We returned last week from London, had been staying at a Marriott, and it was spotless. The staff that was left there was constantly cleaning, and everyone did keep a 6 ft. or more distance. When we checked out we had been the only ones staying the last 3 days of our stay.
