I have an iPhone 14, the normal one, no Mini or Pro, i probably have these settings too? I dont have any other Apple products to alert me though :(

I "have" an apple watch .... I mean its a Series 2 Nike watch from like 2018 that has been overcharged and the battery lasts maybe 4 hours at best.
I think the feature is in the watch and then you set your emergency contacts in your phone. My boys were thrilled that I had mine set up.

And, if I recall correctly, you would need a newer version of the watch, which should pair just fine with your existing phone. This is a newer feature which was only added to later versions of the watch. However, it does not need to be the fanciest. My mom has an Apple Watch which she said she got on a deal at Walmart. Her watch has this feature. So, maybe time to upgrade? Maybe your old one has some trade-in value?

Good question!! Standard Version.

I never pay for the cellular version..not my watch, not my iPad. (I don't feel I need to get that fancy and I'm not that high on the food chain, if you know what I mean.)

However, my son was able to talk to me through my watch. I've often used my watch or iPad to answer a call (I think I might be able to do that on my iMac, too). As long as my phone is nearby, I can answer a call on my other devices. Hope that makes sense :)

I'm doing better, but it's been 2 weeks and I am still not driving. Still mostly resting. Not sure if I reported it earlier but the Amazon driver told the police I hit her. So, I've never been contacted by Amazon. This is the first time I've been in an accident and the responsible party has not stepped up and taken responsibility. So, I have no choice except to hire an attorney. *sigh*
Healing takes time give yourself grace and take all the time you need.

Yes you can use your mac desktop/laptop doesn't matter to answer and make calls when your in the vicinity of your cell.

Fiance’s cardiologist insisted he have apple watch for health reasons (Afib) - he is just one of those that doesn't feel symptoms till he passes out. He took 3 bad falls in a year - broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken nose…

Just checking in to say thinking of you and hoping your recovery is going in the right direction.
Thank you!! Much appreciated!

I am doing better. Still not driving but I expect a full recovery. Other than being a little chubby, I am in excellent health for my age and had been focusing on my activity and strength-building before the wreck. So, part of the reason i rode my bike.

I recently moved back to the Midwest and my house had been vacant and the yard was an overgrown jungle. I had been filling 2 large trash bins every week with yard waste and rolling them to the curb before the wreck. I had been working on rehabbing this house. I'm scheduled to have the floors refinished next month. So, I've been working on painting the ceilings and prepping the walls for paint. All of that has come to a screeching halt. Now, I am mostly resting - laying in the hammock, watching the leaves fall. Reclining on the back deck. Napping, sleeping, audio books versus eyes open.

And, have you heard the saying, "Some days you are the bug, and some days you are the windshield?" Yeah, I was definitely the bug in more ways than one. The driver told the police I hit her. So, I have not been contacted by Amazon. The whole time I was laying in the hospital, I assumed Amazon would be taking care of my bills, not to mention my bike. Nope! I've had to hire an attorney.

Gosh, that's terrible! Hope he is doing better! At our age, we need to be careful and pay attention.

Yikes!!! Happy to read you are on the mend. Continued wishes for a quick recovery.

I think I will consider getting one in the future since I live alone now :(.

My niece was in an accident months ago and her parents and sister were notified also. Did not know this feature until they told me about.

@Snazzylass , I'm so glad you are going to be ok, and your story has inspired me to go out and shop for an apple watch.

For those that have an Apple Watch do they all have the notification if you fall feature on them?

The Fall Detection feature was introduced with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4, in 2018

I slipped coming down the stairs on the last step and ended up on my butt. My watch immediately checked in.

Recently, they introduced a crash detection feature, and roller coasters trigger it.

While the fall detection feature is an excellent support system, it caused a lot of false alarms at Steamboat Ski Resort where I work in the winter. "Normal" falls that cause no injury can set off the alarm. When the Patrol is notified by the "system", they arrive at the location to find nothing or nobody.

There was a fix for that being worked on by Apple and I believe the numbe of false alarms has been greatly reduced.

My GF has one and swears by it for all sorts of things while I soldier on with an old fashioned wind up watch and smartphone.

hmmm, so to hear that about false alarms. Perhaps that's due to people's wrists being hidden under their parkas? And not being able to easily hit the button with their mittens?? Not sure if they can tell Siri to disarm.

I've had this alarms go off many, many times, but up until being hit by a truck, I simply tapped my watch and canceled the alarm. On the other hand, I know I am guilty of lots of alerts from my watch and not stopping to check them.

That's a REALLY good testimonial. I have been putting off getting a smartwatch. Like, 'Heck I have my phone with me, and really don't need a watch because I seldom make more than one appointment a day' What could possibly go wrong?

Still don't know that this will tip me over to get one, but who knows.

Jim
Well if you do tip over the watch would notify someone!

Amazing a watch could get you help in your time of need. Great info, I guess I need to take a look and set that up on my watch! I’m glad you are healing! It sounds like you faired pretty well considering the size of vehicle that hit you! Yikes…scary! Get Well Soon!
