Statistics are not helpful without context. How about some real perspective? Also, please post a link to these stats (where did you find them?). Somehow I suspect you're also comparing non-Smartphone phones in these stats, which doesn't really compare Apple's to Apple's...
First, I'm not alone thinking that it's rather interesting comparing one company's products vs a bunch of companies products. Apple has a history of being compared to operating systems, and not particular products, due to their closed system while others license (or, like Google, simply give away) their operating system. And, is global sales the only metric? Here's another viewpoint (there are many articles containing the same info from Neilson, this is just one):

In essence, these articles show that Apple's iOS is gaining traction and Android is slowing down. This year may be particularly interesting should this trend continue. Here's one quote from the article:
