One more vote saying to let it go. If you feel you must, write a letter then destroy it afterward. Let the past stay the past, and concentrate on what you have.

I'm in the minority here and agree with Rose Pink. I think a short to the point note, apologizing and explaining that as you reflect on your life, this stands out as something you continue to feel badly about and would like to ask her forgiveness, would be very nice. I'm one of those people who stays in touch with old boyfriends and ex-husbands, so I'm not necessarily reflecting anyone's views but my own.

I would be upset to receive the note. You were a jerk and now you are changed and apologize for what happen... Do I have to know that you become a great person now... Isn't it self-centered and you are doing this to make yourself feel better?

You should just leave it alone...

This just happened to my boss...she got a letter, followed by 30 roses, 30 years later. She was freaked out.

Ok, that is creepy. Thanks to everyone who gave their advice. What I take away from this is that I can't do anything to change the past except to stir it up again. I won't do that. What I can do is change the future in the way that I behave with my fellow humans. Energies spent worrying about the past are wasted. Energies not spent improving the future are wasted.

Again, thanks to all and I consider this thread closed.

I would explain the whole situation to your wife just as you posted it here, write a short note to the exgirlfriend - and show the note to your wife before sending it.

Your original post asked if it would mean anything to someone receiving such a letter - it would mean a lot to me in that situation.

You have learned something it . We can only change the future from what we learned in the past to be a better person to those we love.

Bravo to you and also for the courage to use us as a sounding board.
