My condo is tiled throughout except for 2 bedrooms which are carpeted. Has anyone used the Shark Hard Floor Steam Mop that can tell me how well it works on tile? Is it worth the money?
I'll be putting our second one out in the trash tomorrow. The first one also died an early death. My wife said "never again", doesn't do anything a sponge won't do.
I had the Shark Steam Cleaner (canister type - can't remember the correct name). Used it a few times and the hose melted after warranty expired. Had to throw it out. Had many attachments.
I looked into the Shark and decided against it. The best steam cleaners work under pressure, so they can get the temperature of the steam up above 212f. My hoover steam cleaner (which is just OK, not great) gets up to 260f.
When it dies, I'm going to plop down the $1,500 for a Ladybug steamer. Probably the most unmanly name in the world. But that's the steamer that everyone agrees is the best.
Steam cleaning is BRILLIANT. Night and day better than any other system.
Hoover Floormate is a vast improvement on "mop and bucket." For tile. This is what I used for years before going the steam route.
And don't get me wrong, steam cleaning my house adds hours to my week. Can't really put a price on that, can you? It's the best solution for people with hard floors.
It's just that the Shark is rubbish. What do you expect for $49.99 when the good steamers start in the hundreds?
According to Amazon, the mid-range model, for around $150, is rated 3 out of 5. Most of the reviews said they were great for the first year, but as soon as the warranty ended, they broke down.
The best advice: if you are dead-set on a Shark, buy a 1-year extended warranty. You'll need it.
