We were at the old Embassy in November - where is the Whaler?

The Whaler is on the main part of Ka'anapali Beach, just north of the Whaler's Village Shopping Center.

Just got back. We walked past the whaler every morning (I LOVE the beach walk in Kaanapali!). The construction is ongoing. I can't tell you much other than it is still happening and there is equipment and new outdoor furniture stacked around the property.

Pool is finished; courtyard construction ongoing

Aloha Babs,

My wife and I are at The Whaler now...and life is spectacularly wonderful!

The refurbished swimming pool was put back in operation just before Thanksgiving. It looks beautiful, especially with top quality lounges and new tile decking. The pool is filled with sun loving tanners every day now. I believe the new lounges are the most attractive ones anywhere along Kaanapali Beach, including up to the Westin Villas. The enlarged jacuzzi spa is also proving very popular.

The courtyard construction (to waterproof it against leaks into the garage below) is ongoing, but scheduled for completion by mid-May 2009. The current construction noise is nil, since they are just placing multiple layers of waterproofing material. The current plan is to have dirt, grass, and plantings restored in 3/4 of the courtyard by Christmas...but I'm doubtful they will get quite that far. There is NO doubt however, that with the current resurfacing work, the courtyard is ugly; however, the view beyond, to Kaanapali Beach and the isles of Lanai and Molokai are just as beautiful as ever...

The porte cochere at lobby entry is also having new rock sheathing placed around the pillars (about 10+ feet high?), and should make the lobby much more attractive.

The BAD NEWS is that jackhammering and other heavy mechanical noise will resume January 5, as the final 1/4 of the courtyard concrete will be removed (adjacent to Tower 2). This awful noise portion will probably last about two or three weeks, to be followed by the same lengthy re-application of waterproofing materials...until final restoration of the entire courtyard in mid-May.

[That noisy mid-January period will make it very difficult to enjoy the pool...but that's why the beach continues to remain available:hi: : It won't be nearly as noisy towards the Kaanapali Beach Hotel side, in front of Tower 1.]

By the way, since I believe you own in Tower 2, unit #851, you probably won't hear any construction noise at all...or it should be mostly muted, at least on the side facing Whalers Village. [We heard NO noise in our studio, directly facing the Village, during the heavy construction period in October.]

If you want to see the most recent pictures of the pool and courtyard work, please Email me...and I will forward pix posted by the General Manager last Friday!
