DH has been in major back pain for couple of weeks. He had MRI done today and it shows a compression fracture of the L2 vertebrae. The disc is bulging and has some bleeding. Doctor is recommending procedure called Kypho Plasty (sp). Has anyone had it done? How well does it work and how long does it take to recover afterward? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Suzanne

Think I have seen this done both by orthopedic doctors and radiologists. Maybe try Google.

Yikes, I hope it turns out to be a viable procedure for his situation and works. I am experiencing a bulging disk myself tho not as bad. My sympathies and hopes for speedy AND FULL recovery.

Sorry I have no knowledge of the procedure but thank you for posting the question as I now know it exists ...

Back surgery really scares me. I guess if my pain gets bad enough, I might consider it, but not until.

DH was sent to the ER this AM to get his pain under control and get set up with the surgeon. They ended up admitting him to keep pain under control until he has surgery. They did another MRI this evening, the first one on Monday showed a small amount of blood. If the new MRI shows no further bleeding or other issues they will do the Kyphoplasty procedure. If it shows a hematoma along with the compression and bulging disc, then it becomes more extensive and ends up with a fusion of the disc. We will know what they will do tomorrow.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Oh gees, definitely have him top of mind, and you, too. Not easy to be powerless on the sidelines.

Please keep us posted and be sure to take care of yourself during this.

Positive thoughts for his speedy recovery.

Thoughts are with you both

Cyber friends here have no concrete information to provide or share but know that you are both in our thoughts and prayers as he goes through this.

I think it is very good to post on whatever bulletin boards or websites you belong because many times we do find others who have been through similar experiences and can share.

Praying for a speedy and full recovery!

Judy
