Anyone Every Hear About the Clothing Brand "COAL"?

On a recent trip to Steamboat Springs, I found just the baseball style cap that I wanted (on sale for $18 instead of $25). It has a medium sized emblem (on the riser? from the bill) with a mountain peak, sunset or sunrise and the word "COAL". I bought the hat just because I really liked the light color of the hat and the mesh reinforcement of the riser (very rare).

Since arriving back in Blue Denver, a few people have commented on my "COAL" hat. It is not explicit or aggressive, but it is clear they do not like that dirty, four-letter word; like by wearing it I am some kind of right-wing backer of fossil fuels. When I answer, "It is the name of a clothing brand" they suspiciously change their attitude, as if naming a clothing company "COAL" is beyond all believing.

Some peoples' automatic assumptions in the current social environment ... (maybe there is a pun in there) :)

It is a Christian outreach food and clothing store in Ronald WA. Coal mines are what this area was known for in the past. It is pretty close to Suncadia Resort.

The internet is NOT your friend. While there is a Goodwill-style shop named "COAL Community Clothing Store" in Ronald, WA, the clothing company I am refering to is based in Seattle, WA. Has nothing to do with the coal industry as far as I can tell.

Completely different.

The store I'm talking about is near my wife's uncles lodge in Ronald WA. near Suncadia Resort. The area is well known for abandoned coal mines, the show Northern Exposure and all seasons out door adventures including the ski slopes at near by Snoqualmie Pass.

Maybe Coal only means it keep your head warm as coal. If you knew what Coal is why did you ask ? :)

Poster knew it was a clothing brand, I believe they were noting how somethings may not be as one perceives. Some thought they were supporting coal industry and not just a fashion brand!

I've never heard of it and wouldn't automatically attribute a political stance on fossil fuels to anybody wearing it. After finding it on the internet it reminds me a little bit of REI or Patagonia, although it doesn't have nearly the number of items. Looks like comfy t-shirts, though.

Originally I thought it was a high end thrift store MAGA type hat, lol. If you look at the coalheadgear link you see a guy wearing a hat with a lake in the distance. That lake looks like Cle Ellum Lake viewed from a Jeep trail through the abandoned coal mine areas above Ronald WA. You can see the chunks of coal on the hill.

I like it, hope we get more info on it for fathers day gifts.
