Anyone ever hear of Timeshare Advantage Network (TAN)?

We are staying at one of the DVC resorts right now. We had dinner in Germany in Epcot yesterday. We were seated with a family who belonged to a timeshare group, I assume a vacation club, called Timeshare Advantage Network. The gentleman didn't want to tell me the name since the program was so good he didn't want word to get out. I did a Tug search on the full name and on TAN, but didn't find anything. Has anyone heard of this vacation club?

That's a funny one! It's Travel Advantage Network and, as far as vacation clubs go, it's a reputable one. How it gets sold may be another story entirely. I've seen lists of their inventory and some may be quite happy with it.

My sister is a VIP member of TAN. Basically she bought 18 prepaid weeks and paid something like 5k for those weeks. But with those week you have to pay some additional fees like $99 dollars in processing when you use those

The best part for me, since she is a VIP member I get access to their excess inventory for around $200 total for the weeks above. $99 plus $89 for processing.

I have stayed in Tampa area, brand new 2 bedroom for 200 for the week
Disney on excess for 3 bedroom for 200
Fort Lauderdale, 200 for three bedroom but not that great of a place, kinda dumpy but it was 1 mile from the dive shop I use and way cheaper than any hotel. Plus there is only 3 in my family.

Excess Inventory is all the same price.

Regular weeks have more restrictions and fees on them like prime season etc.

I think you can deposit a week there and get 2 weeks in return with the TAN program.

In short the Excess is the best thing they have going.

We started with TAN

If this TAN is Travel Advantage Network, Millersville MD (or was), that is how we got into timesharing, by buying a 5 or 6 week vacation package years ago. We bought our present timeshare after a visit booked with TAN. We had a lot of good vacations with them, some screw-ups, but at the time we decided not to renew, they were doing pretty good and had good inventory.

We also have a TAN membership have had it for a long time way before we bought our first timeshare. We have used it several times. Some of their units are just basic standard condos and some are TS resorts that are very very nice. Their processing fee is $89 for each week you book. If you use one of your paid weeks it will cost you $89 plus a surcharge of $25 per night (x7) for prime red time (TAN's listings) for a 1 bedroom or studio. An additional $20 per night (x7) for a 2nd bedroom unit. Excess Inventory is different. It is $99 plus $89 processing fee regardless of unit size.
We have never had any problems with them. They will also take your Timeshare week and give you two weeks back but.... the same charges will apply when you book a week. So if you give them a red week or a 2-bedroom you have to pay that surcharge to get the same in return. Don't think that's fair unless you have a blue dog week.

The do have a lot of inventory on east coast.

Unfortunately, I can't help you out with that one. The only real answer is to call them and ask..

They charge extra for 2-bedrooms and it may be peak season so there is another additional charge as well plus the processing charge.

I don't think so (but not sure). I think you have to be a member but from what I have heard they charge a big price (like all other companies) to purchase x amount of weeks and then there is a $179 annual fee to keep the membership active. In our case we purchased from another company several years ago, so it was cheaper, and then TAN bought them out.

If you were a member, they will take any week even dog weeks, but they treat all the weeks the same and give you two weeks in return but if you travel during prime time there are surchages as I stated in my previous post. The cost would be $404 for a week if you were a member.

almost sounds like renting a place on your own is better then. To pay a large amount upfront for the weeks, then to pay an annual fee plus processing and surcharges, etc.

You would be probably best served renting a week or points from someone. This sounds like it is probably a decent idea, until the fees and surcharges begin to ruin it.

I have 2 red summer weeks and they won't get mine. Like I said in other post with the surcharges it's not a fair deal.
