Has anyone stayed at the Surf Rider Resort in Pompano Beach? I have a chance to pick up a week and wondered if it was worth it.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Dave:
I've seen it, but never stayed. I remember some who didn't think it was so great. It is on the wrong side of A1A.....and they had a hard time accessing the beach.

(There are big condos & T/S across the street, and maybe the required right to beach access was not easily apparent. area is good in all respects.

Thanks for the response

Thanks for the response Ken. I could not find any reviews anywhere. I used to live in Lauderhill but at that time never paid attention to the T/S. I have a chance to pick up a cheap winter week and would like to see if it is worth staying at the resort or trading.

Just wondering about Surf Rider also. Have unit on hold for Christmas 2008. I know it is across from "beach" but I thought the area might be great for our kids (25/23/19) Any opinions?? WE also like the fact that it is pretty far south so the chances of it being warmer are better than Daytona (where we will be this Christmas) The units sound ok...we're not particular meaning it doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles (that would be nice but not necessary) Thanks!!

We were there for a week several years ago. At that time, there was a very large condo construction project just across the street, with the resulting traffic and noise. My failing memory seems to recall a beach access walkway close to the front of the resort, but it would be risky crossing to it most times. The pool was nice, and our unit was clean but rather strangely laid out, with older furnishings and appliances. Perfectly acceptable, but not a Marriott.
The other guests seemed to be mostly regulars who knew each other well.

I don't know where I read this.

Most units have W/D in the unit. They have a charge. You need a code number to open a gate across A1A to access the beach.

Intracoastal views were nice. Pool was OK (maybe I read some dirt on the floor?) Rooms were standard. Big sign I noticed in front said weekly units for sale. Less than $1000 (It was $699 or something like that).

This area is loaded with the Pompano Beach T/Ss....and I've seen many for sale on E Bay from (I guess those post card companies) for one dollar a week, up to $29.00 a week. All standard resorts in the area....beach front FF Royal Palm is a 5 star.

This part of Pompano may not be 100% guarded...but THIS WINTER, most of Broward had a slow slope to deeper water (no big drop off)...not so in the northern areas of Palm Beach county.

It should be much warmer (in the ocean, at least) than Daytona....this winter the ocean temps hardly reached lower than 72 F. (Yes, the air might be cooler than the ocean temps. When we left (last weeks of April), the ocean temps off Hollywood were pushing near 80 F.

About that sand drop.....no guarantees....wait till after storm season to see how the beaches make out.

Thanks Ken for the info. We did book the week in for Christmas 2008. We haven't been to that area with our kids so it would be somewhere different. We're comfortable wherever we are and make our own fun.....kids laughed that we already have 2008 booked. We always books last call/extra vacation almost to the last day that you can book. People laugh at us that we have it booked.....by come December guess who will be laughing!!
