Any suitable replacements with similar Hawaiian dishes to Aloha Mixed Plate - Lahaina?

Hey all - the last time we were in Maui in 2019, we went to Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina a few times. We loved the menu there with the local Hawaiian dishes. I know that place is closed now since the pandemic- but does anyone know of a place close to Kaanapali/Lahaina that offers similar Hawaiian dishes? I'm not referring to greasy dishes but things like Kalua pig, AlI'I Plate, Mixed Plate, their Original Favourites etc. Thanks!!

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Kaanapali offers many Hawaiian dishes. You can also try the deli section of most grocery stores.

Two up sides ... less expensive and just take to the beach. Maybe not quite as good or fancy, especially sit down eating ... but still Ono grindz

I have not eaten at a L&L in over 25 years. I used to eat at the original and only one in Liliha in my school days since it was the neighborhood local place. Since franchising and expanding to the mainland, I no longer go there and recommend them to visitors. Quality and consistency is just not there anymore IMO. 35 years ago, it was a great local spot with big tasty portions and pocket friendly prices. I recommend local moco drive inn for a quick chain plate lunch.

We went to Kimo's and Bubba Gumps (now closed) in Lahaina which we liked. We really didn't like the greasy food mixed pate options of some other restaurants. However we kept going back to Aloha Mixed Plate since we loved the food and outdoor atmosphere so much. 808Grindz's menu looks like a heart attack about to happen. Thanks for the recommendation though.

The original L&L on Liliha was a great place. A classic plate lunch (and more) spot. I agree that once they started franchising it became just a poor imitation of the original. So many great places I remember from the 80s and 90s are no longer around.

I have to admit, when I’m on Oahu I can’t resist a visit or two to Zippy's. Not quite the same as it used to be but still good, and brings back great memories. And I just searched and discovered that they now have a location on Maui, somehow I have been totally unaware. It’s in Kahului, sort of behind the Home Depot, and it will be a great place to stop before or after a flight into OGG.

Kimo's in Lahaina is open. I wouldn't consider them as a replacement for a mixed plate.

No new tenants at Bubba Gumps or Ruth’s Chris (as of Sept 2022).

Hard Rock location is now occupied by Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar & Store. Aside from this new bar/store, Outlets of Maui looked a bit like a ghost town.

I wouldn't have believed it but the ABC store on the Lower Honopolli Rd in front of the Aston at Papakea Resort has really good mixed plates.

Will eat at Jippys....err Zippys once in a while now. Their prices have risen higher and faster than inflation. My friends and I have been calling it Jippys for a few years.

The ABC store in Kapalua has a great takeout restaurant. Reasonable and lots of things to eat. There are picnic benches outside. We make it there at least once a trip.

We miss Aloha Mixed Plate as well especially the views at Sunset, but Star Noodle (which has taken over the space) is pretty good as well. These restaurants share the same parent company so at least you can expect similar quality of food.

We used to eat at DaKitchen in Kahului after our plane landed, but that chain has felt the sting of COVID and only recently re-opened as a popup in a shared space. We ended up doing a lot of quick service & food truck meals on our most recent trip and enjoyed the adventure.

We love the food at Paia Fish Market on Front St in Lahaina and in Kihei (very limited seating at this location)—- healthy, fresh, and delicious though ambiance isn’t exactly that of the former AMP.

We tried Joey’s Kitchen (the food court location in Whaler’s Village) off the Top 10 list shared in post #2 but thought it was just ok. The food truck next to the ABC store in Whaler’s actually had better beer-battered fish. Even the food truck park across from the Times Market/L&L had an interesting variety of food. We liked Chunky Paniolo Hawaiian Food Truck’s Kalua Pork & Cabbage, Prime Rib, and Loaded Fries.

808Grindz, recommended by frank808, was a favorite of our extended family though I haven’t tried myself.

Not an Aloha Mixed Plate alternative per se, but our family went to town on MonkeyPod’s happy hour Menu. Even the server laughed after he thought we were done with our order for the 3rd time. We are a family of big eaters. Even their fresh squeezed pineapple juice was delish.

I will continue to monitor this thread in preparation for our next trip to Maui in 2023.
