Now that Aruba is off the table for the time being, has anyone heard anything about Los Cabos?

I googled SVO in Cabo and found two job postings for the Westin Los Cabos Villas on Hot Jobs that were posted, and then reposted in late Jan early Feb, and now both job listings have been pulled.

So I'm a little suspicious.

not a pretty picture as of a month ago

long complicated story, read messages from the beginning

Owners who bought under Raintree are very, very unhappy

Can't get a clear picture just ohow much construction SVO is doing
It seems like a mess

here is part of an owners unhappy message

My family just concluded our annual Thanksgiving week vacation at
Grand and I feel compelled to share some thoughts and concerns for
your consideration.
It is very difficult to verbalize the disappointment we felt upon
seeing the once beautiful property of Grand changed from contemporary
elegant white to the terra cotta color. How can it be that the owners
were not informed of a decision of this magnitude regardless of the
'fashion rights' of Sanchez Navarro? In my opinion, the aesthetic
appeal of the property has not been enhanced but rather cheapened. I
could not find an owner last week who liked the change or knew about
it prior to arrival. Shame on all who supported this change without a
fight. It seems that there were too few people making a rather
important decision about a very major change. I invested in the
property, in part, because of the unique aesthetic appeal. It now
appears that we can add this outcome to the list of many things that
the owners were deceived about. After all of this painting effort, the
support columns on the balconies are still unpainted. How can anyone
feel that raw concrete is a good look? If there was no legal way
around the re-painting effort, is it unreasonable to expect that a
tasteful alternative could have been explored? Who is making these
decorating decisions?
The following observations concern maintenance issues that you should
be aware of: 1. The balcony hot tubs never seem to function without
frequent calls of help to either maintenance or housekeeping. They
were not installed to be user friendly and the touch pads rarely work.
Every time I have used a unit, the controls need to be operated from
outside the unit by a staff member. This is not what guests or owners
should be required to deal with. 2. For some unknown reason
housekeeping removed all of the pillow tops from the mattresses and
only replaced them upon request. Our first night was like sleeping on
a marble slab until we figured out the problem with some help from
another owner. 3. The dishwasher in our unit was pulled out from the
cabinet upon our arrival. It was repaired but I have to wonder why a
staff member had not reported and repaired it before the room was
released for occupancy. 4. The poor design of the corner cabinet door
under the kitchen sink always seems to be broken. Our cabinet was no
exception and it took the entire week for someone to repair it. 5. A
spot light over the balcony hot tub was removed, the wires were cut
and it was never repaired during our stay. Who follows up with things
like this? Should an owner or paying guest of an owner have to worry
about such things?

Hi mlsmn - I'm sorry but I'm not very well informed, can you please briefly explan the relationship between the Grand the the new Westin Los Cabos?

Thanks!

Hi Denise-

Picture standing in front of the Westin Los Cabos and facing out to the Sea. The Westin Club Regina timeshares are on the left. On the right is Grand Regina fractionals. We toured it two years ago during a stay at Club Regina. Looked at it because my business partner had just bought in. His building was to be completed in 2008.

Apparently they financed it and he has been paying monthly with a balloon that was due a number of months ago. Meanwhile, nothing was happening at the site. Starwood contacted him and said they had bought the project. As I understand, they did not buy the completed buildings (which were all oceanfront) but rather the newer phases yet to be built. He was pleased knowing how happy I have been with Starwood and felt this was his guarantee that things would start moving. My understanding is that the existing owners will have a choice whether to remain with Rainbow or switch to SVN.

He had to fight over not making the balloon payment. He is now promised 2009 occupancy but it is distressing to hear that nothing is going on there. These were very expensive units (at least back then - now everything new seems to be at or above that price point!) and I can understand the frustration of the letter writer above. It looks like Starwood has some major work to do to make these people happy and their communication to him regarding ongoing status has been poor.

stevens397 has all the facts correct

When we toured the Grand Regina (which is in RCI and Registry Collection) in Feb 2006
They were $130,000 for 2 weeks min. ( 2 bedroom )

With promises of big money to rent out
It seems from reading Google group posts- a lot of owners want to rent their units out with no takers.

At this point things don't look great for a speedy build or end to the confusion. There is still a problem - the RCI, Registry Collection membership for original units built by Raintree and the new units to be built by SVO and will be in Interval?

keep track of building going on or lack of with this webcam- Cabo is in mountain time zone

I just ran across this on the Starwood site (under the Construction Schedule section) for The Westin Los Cabos Ocean Villas (is that "WLCOV"?):

Development of The Westin Los Cabos Ocean Villas began in April 2007 and the resort opening was scheduled for early 2009. However, due to unexpected delays in the vertical construction of the 64 villas and parking structure, the opening will be delayed. We will provide an updated schedule when we have a better understanding of the construction timeline.

What a shame.

I see Aruba has been removed from the list of resorts on MyStarCentral.

Is anyone captaining the SVO ship?

This site( The Westin Los Cabos Ocean Villas ) shows the Westin Hotel not the Grand Regina

the info on this web site says nothing new.
It doesn't look like things are moving along.

You're correct that the photo in the header is of the adjacent hotel building, but that website was set up in reference to the Westin takeover of the Grand Regina project.

It also shows it was last updated in February 2008. From my look-through, the only thing I see updated from the earlier releases is the construction schedule.
