Any Elderhostelers among our ranks??

Okay I admit it - we now qualify for Elderhostel trips. So the question is are there any among us that have taken one of these trips and (potentially) hooked them up with timeshare stays.?? I am looking at the Rail Trip in the Cooper Canyon next February http://www.elderhostel.org/programs/programdetail.asp?RowId=1+JB+70&DateId= or one in Costa Rica http://www.elderhostel.org/programs/programdetail.asp?RowId=1-KZGAP


Just wondered if you took them, how you enjoyed them??

I haven't personally, but my mil and dh's aunt have done quite a few. And some friends of ours did one in Hawaii a few years ago, then met up with us for a week at a timeshare on Maui. They enjoyed the program they went to as well.

My SIL and BIL just came back from Grand Canyon with Elderhostel. They loved the trip, got to see a lot and felt it was very informative.

I have two friends, both retired teachers, who rave about Elderhostel. I have always eyed the Copper Canyon trip. There are several companies who do the trip so you might check prices if you thought you wanted to compare to Elderhostel. I do know that accomodations are not 5 star...but OK.

Not us but....

Neighbors across the street went to New Zealand with an Elderhostel trip and had a great time.

We did one Shakespearan experience in Oregon with Elderhostel and enjoyed the week immensely. When we slow down with timesharing, hope to do another one.

I do feel the international ones are too expensive for us.

We have been on several- well, 3~4. We've enjoyed them all. They are not cheap, by that I mean modest accommodations, box lunches, and the cost of much more deluxe digs. After all, they started out booking dorm rooms in summer time and doing classes on college campuses.

You DO learn something, though that's up to you. There aren't any tests. Many Elderhostelers are retired educators, and lifetime learners. After a lifetime of hanging out with young people, they think like young people.

We've studied geology and history in Yellowstone, including snowmobiling in the park. We studied Spanish in Nogales and included trips into Mexico. I see many trips in the new catalog (there are 3, twice-a-year) that look like fun, but it will be hard to fit among the timesharing. Shux, it's always a trade-off.

My husbands two sisters have been on a trip to Peru (summer '06) and Africa (summer '07). They were thrilled with both trips and the Elderhostel program.
