They also use(d) those delightful little buggies in red ink for printing. When we've toured the Colonial Williamsburg Printer and Bookbinder they always make a point of showing a jar of the bugs and talking about how they're dried and crushed etc.....

This is nothing new, they have been used in coloring foods red for years. Just now there is an uproar about them in a Starbucks drink? To tell you the truth, they are probably be healthiest thing in that drink.

I guess since most stores dropped "pink slime" in ground beef, the media needs to find something new to latch on to?

The next big news will probably be that there are acceptable limits for insect parts and rodent hairs in spices. They've always been there and always will be.
