I received a letter today from “Resort Owners Association, 3208 Colonial Drive, Ste C, #306, Orlando FL. Now, I do not own a timeshare in Florida so right away I knew it was a scam, especially since the letter didn’t mention anything about the name of my timeshare. The text reads:

“This Notice was sent to you as a courtesy only. For a limited time, you may participate in this program that may eliminate maintenance fees for timeshare owners. This is only available to a select group of owners and we encourage you to call between May 1st and May 16th, 2012 to qualify”. Then it lists an 888 telephone number. It also contains a very long bar code on the bottom of the letter and in the upper right it has a box containing “account number and account date” with a heading of Annual Association Notice!!!

Obviously you can’t eliminate maintenance fees and I am sure if you would respond to this letter they would want an upfront fee and tell you they have buyers waiting to purchase timeshares in my area. If anyone receives a letter like this my suggestion would be to ignore it and throw it away. If you live in the State of Florida maybe you could turn it over to your Attorney’s General office.

Has to be either W or E Colonial to be a valid address. 3208 E Colonial is the UPS Store so it must be W Colonial. I have driven near there many times. It's a run down area with lots of empty store locations. Prime area for a temporary scam location.

Posted about this specific "organization" (for those who might not realize it is, as the OP guessed, a fake front - there is NO such thing as th "Resort Owners Association" and is using words meant to make you think it is one of your resorts) last week - we got the letter too.

But is cannot hurt to publicize this potential scam again so word gets out before anyone falls for it. Thanks for posting.
