Another Cruise Ship in Trouble: Costa Allegra adrift off Seychelles

Did anyone notice that, in the stories about how many passengers are on board, the ship is half full. This is probably the result of Concordia. If you want a free cruise, you can probably book on any of the Costa ships that are left.

This is not that unusual. That is what happened to Carnival Splendor last year. And it took even longer to get them to a port. Remember? They eventually towed them back to San Diego.
Many years ago my parents were on a ship going around Australia and NZ, and the engines and electricity went out. Probably a fire, too, don't remember. They spent almost 24 hours at sea in the dark before being towed to Sydney. They were put up there for three days while the ship was repaired. Arrangements had been made for everybody--Class A hotels, being able to sign for food at the hotel for all meals, and tours offered for free every day. Plus a partial refund and a 50% discount on the next cruise. My parents said it was "an adventure."

This ship, Costa Allegra, is over 20 years old, on a not-very-popular route. Not that similar mishaps can't happen to the newest, finest ships of the line.
Off hand, I'd say Carnival/Costa is not getting a good start at 2012.
Fine by me, I won't board a Carnival again. And no hurry to board a Costa.
