I shared this on Facebook a lot today and thought you all might find it interesting.
Staying at Desert Blue this week. Made me go to the marketing desk (owner services) to get my wristbands where they asked me for an update. I said I’d only go for 150. As a single owner. He asked his manager if that was ok and got a yes. I turned off my card before I gave it to him so he couldn’t take a deposit (if they said something about it I was going to tell them to cancel the update). No deposit, free 150. Now let me tell you about my visit.
“How much do you own?” 615000. “You’re a resale owner. How much did you pay for all that? “With all of my timeshares including 14000 shell points (which I love) as well as a week at Tahiti Village (also love) and two weeks at Big Bear CA which I’ve only exchanged with so far, $1000. I know you’re going to tell me you can rewrite my contract to be all access, which would be nice. Just 2/3 are access and I love my 13 month reservation period, but the lowest you’re going to offer to do that for me is 13,500”. “Actually it’s 15k”. “Exactly. What can you offer me? I know about Blue Thread, the travel and leisure buy out (it won’t affect owners at all. Know that. ) and there’s really no lie you could sell me. Why am I here? Put me on the Do Not Gift list. Salesman says that list is very real. Told me to call owner services. Owner services says the list doesn’t exist anymore and noted my account.
I’ve never spent more than 30 minutes in a meeting. One time they made me wait half an hour. I walked up to them (in New Orleans) and said I was leaving in another half hour. They’d better hurry up. Gifted me and left.
I don’t want to waste their time, and I don’t want them to waste time. The marketing department at checkin gets paid for each person they send so they have a VESTED interest in making you go. Don’t go? They don’t get paid. That’s why it’s so hard to say No.
