Amex Hilton Changes

For those of you with Business Platinum cards, it looks like Amex is closing the gift card option for using the $50 quarterly credit. I'm not sure if they will extend this to the Surpass as well.

It seems like they are trying to push people into actually visiting a Hilton property every quarter to get the quarterly credit? Are these companies now just playing whack-a-mole? When they eliminate or modify the terms of one benefit, cardholders figure out a work around. Then they move to change or limit that too.

There have not been any Hilton gift cards available since the first quarter of this year.

Hilton Credit Data Point - I was able to use my credits recently at the restaurant in the Embassy Suites Washington Square in Portland. Split the bill between my Surpass and P2's Hilton Business card and that covered the whole meal with tip. The food was fine and they are only about 10 minutes from our place, so they will be seeing us every three months or so ;)

Yes, I assume the original intent was to reward people for actually staying at hotels, not to incentivize people to buy gift cards for a year and then apply a bunch of them to a single stay. But yes, I agree people will keep trying to find workarounds. I work in fraud prevention, and people are very resourceful when it comes to saving money via exploits or system gaps.

I have never purchased a Hilton gift card, but in general, I have found the process of purchasing other hotel or airline gift cards to be more work than it's worth.

I live and work in San Jose and have found that the hotel bar and restaurant at the Hilton San Jose will trigger the credit. I usually have enough travel or HGV fees to use up the credits, but my backup plan is food and beverage after work.

I only want to use the credit on a useful expense(s) such as MFs. I don't want to force a credit for drinks/food that I really don't want to spend it on.
Not everyone with a Hilton AMEX owns a Hilton timeshare. To me wasting the credit is not using it at all

But that is the whole goal of credit cards. Get you to overspend on a bunch of stuff you don't need because it seems like you aren't really spending cash.

*Not the spreadsheet-crunching TUG folks!
We earn & burn and strategize, to make sure the card still makes sense, as we are paying cold, hard cash, for access to the card & it's various coupons/credits, whether we use them or not (& hence many threads like this & CSR etc)..

I like the Lulu credit much more than Saks (on Amex Platty)...
Tons of Lulu stores (as compared to Saks) + Free shipping + 75 each quarter (+ some decent stuff we can actually buy with this credit at their prices)
+ Can stack addl discounts for many (Military & 1st responders, including nurses, EMTs, docs, for 15%, including on final sale/clearance items etc) + sweat collective (25%)
(I don't use Rakuten or other portals but many do for addl MR earning opportunities).

Dang it, I didn't stack those discounts when I burned the Q3 credit

I was thinking about you (& hoping you used it)....
No worries; you are still far ahead of most (as many likely will never use the credit this quarter)....
Q4 coming up soon, in 3 days..
Thinking of waiting for BF/CM sales for Q4 although not sure if Lulu has any nice BF sales or not (or if they will have them anymore, with the likely massive influx of Amex Platty credit shoppers)....
Or may just use the Q4 credit soon (on 10/1), knowing that a credit used is better than a credit lost (+ time/bandwidth wasted in trying to 'optimize' credit) although I am sure someone will remind us here on TUG on BF/CM to use our Lulu (& Saks) credits...

I am normally a really good stacker... Best in my class with Lincoln Logs....:)

Sax has some expensive undies too I hear. Four undies for $107. Sounds like it’s up your alley.
My wife easily spends the Saks credit twice a year.... And already looking forward to the Lulu Q4

I enrolled yesterday, and got email confirmation. The Amex app was also encouraging me to link our Resy profile with Amex - that turned out not to be required, as DH couldn’t remember his PW and enrollment of the card for credit was a separate process.

Did you add your Platinum card to the Resy app/site? Going to use ours tonight.

Just received this email and trying to decide if it is with getting it. I already have the personal Reserve Card. The companion ticket more than covers the cost. With this one, I would have another one or maybe I should have my wife get it. I don't know. These and the Plat are a lot.

Good deal if at or near a delta hub. Unfortunately I am not.

Sorry, not delta hub here either & sky pesos are usually not as valuable as MR/UR per Mile/points folks although I don't often fly DL (except cash, if good pricing/routing), so can't say much re this CC offer...

*Just need to enroll for Resy credits (on AmEx Plat app/website) & eat at Resy participating restaurant, as I understand...
If you have the Resy app, you may 'link them', so you can then see your Resy reservations etc, apparently on AmEx Plat side. (Defer to Resy & AmEx Platty experts though; Resy newbie here...)
(It shows me as enrolled for the credit & just ate at a local Resy restaurant; shall see if credit hits in next week or so for Q3...)

Per Google (although defer to real human experts/users):
