Will my points still be in my SPG account if I cancel the card, because I have gold lifetime status because of my TS ownership?:ponder: I won't obviously earn any points because I won't be charging on the AMEX. Not impressed with the $95 fee and Costco soon won't take it anymore. Don't see the reason to keep it anymore.

SPs are yours to keep.

How are you going to accumulate SPs in order to get benefit from your SPG Gold Status?

I just don't want to lose the one's I have if I cancel the card. I don't plan on accumulating anymore. I'll go for the free drink when we check in, instead of the points.:whoopie:

As you earn points each month, they are deposited in your SPG Acct., and they will stay there, even if you cancel the credit card.

*Because of the pending Marriott take-over, I am in the process of transferring my points out of SPG, but I'm not going to cancel until I see what shakes out.

Almost all CC's that generate points have a yearly fee in the $80-$100 range, so I'm OK with that.

What I like about the card is that you get 1.25 airline miles for every point.

What I was getting at was... what good is SPG Gold after you run out of SPs? You going to use cash instead?

Maybe they just want to use up the Starpoints they have and move on to a different credit card.

I have the Capital One Venture One card, gives 1.25 miles with no annual fee. I have gotten really good flight deals through Capital one travel. Kept the SPG AMEX because of the perks, but fee went up and perks seem to be going down. Looking at Chase sapphire, same fee as the AMEX, travel insurance included and $625 in travel bennies. Too many choices.:wall:

I just got an offer in the mail from Chase Sapphire that I am going to investigate.

We use our Starwood AE at Costco now. I am wondering about any offers that might come with the Costco Visa when it rolls out. Anybody care to speculate?

Not to turn this into a credit card thread, but Fidelity just came out with a new Visa card which deposits 2% cash back straight into your Fidelity account: https://www.fidelity.com/cash-management/visa-signature-card

Since most people value Starpoints at around 2 cents, this is a pretty good replacement card considering it has no fee. If you're looking for other travel-related perks, though, it may not be for you.

Chase Sapphire is my go-to card these days. Their travel site allows you to book hotels, rental cars, and activities. Their rental car rates (e.g points) are especially good, but I also love booking activities with them because I probably wouldn't book them if I had to pay it in cash.

They usually have a 50,000 point sign-up bonus, so don't settle for something less.

I was just on the spg website and noticed that the airline transfer rate is now 1:1. I wonder when this changed. It looks like the 5,000 bonus is still there when you transfer 20,000 points.

We have used it in the past to transfer points to American and it was always a 1:1 ratio plus the 5,000 extra for 20,000 points transferred. Hopefully they will have the extra point bonus sometime in the future. with American, since American is devaluing their point system.

I think it was a 1:2 for Delta. I know for United it was poor with a 2:1 ratio. Not sure about other airlines.
