Recently, we bought a King sized mattress from Amazon. It is a 14 inch memory foam that reviewed well. We let it expand for 72 hours. It expanded it to almost 12 inches. It was rated as plush but it is medium firm. I like it but my wife hates it. We (she) decided to send it back. UPS is suppose to pick it up today.

The problems are the mattress expanded and was difficult to move down the stairs. I had to call next door for help. The mattress has to be wrapped to return which required a drive to Lowes to buy a mattress cover. While it hasn't happened yet I'm thinking UPS will not have a helper so I will probably have to help get it into their truck.

I was having good luck with these memory foam mattress purchases until now. I'm thinking a hybrid spring and foam mattress will be next.

we have absolutely loved the zinus mattresses off amazon. I will say that the thicker they get, they seem to be MUCH MUCH softer.

We won't buy a mattress, online or anywhere else,
until we've tried the same brand + model in a store.

That's how we settled on our Tempur-Pedic...
By trying out nearly every stinkin' mattress in town.

I bought 4 mattresses for the cabin from Amazon. I don't remember the name brand. All of them are the same and I think comfortable. This last one is a 14 inch Lucid that is suppose to be plush. It only expanded to about 11 1/2 inches so maybe it's defective.

I've been writing reviews while waiting for UPS. They say they will get here between 10:30 and 9 today. That's alot of range.

Years ago we bought a Select Comfort Queen that was recommended by Paul Harvey. It was shipped to us and we liked it. It's still used in one of the bedrooms here. Then years later we bought another Select Comfort in the king size that's about 15 years old. We might go to the Select Comfort store to see what they have. It seems like these get less comfortable after 12+ years.

UPS showed up and won't take the mattress because of the size. I called Amazon and there was no specialist available to speak with so I have to call back later.

We have zinus mattresses hybrid pillow top -quite firm. We got a 3 inch memory foam topper from kohls when it was “1/2 price,” down to $200 in 2018. I like a softer bed and this is perfect, sink down a bit and then firm support. It’s a fabulous bed! And being on the firm side, it’ll last forever. So, if return is a hassle, try that.

So after 45 minutes of talking to Amazon a specialist was finally available. What they did was issue a refund and told me to dispose of the mattress. I was complaining about the wait time but I like the mattress so I'm putting it in the downstairs bedroom. It was about $650. I wonder how many times this happens ?

So you’re getting a full refund and you’re going to keep it?

That would be implied by my putting it in the downstairs bedroom where it is now, right ? I might take it to the cabin this weekend. I was told to get rid of it however I want and I'm not sure what that is yet. Why do you ask ? Are you wanting to buy it ?

had the same thing happen to me regarding a motorized swing gate opener, amazon deemed it "too large to return" and when the vendor didnt respond with any useful support simply refunded me the full balance. it was 550 or so.

So you would accept money for something you received a full refund?

If this happened to me, I would donate it to a worthy local non-profit. Where are your ethics?

We had to replace the bladders in ours, pretty easy.

SC has different foam thicknesses and quality so it can be a bit tricky. We run Costco Memory Foam Toppers and replace every couple of years. Seems to do the trick for us.

We now have 3 of them between the houses. One purchased new and the others inherited.

I have heard of this happening to many people. Too hard to return big items. Most charities don’t want mattresses for sanitary reasons. Amazon told them to throw it away! It is more ethical to keep it out of the landfill.

I agree-keep it out of landfill. The mattress came with a free return policy. He attempted to properly return it-including a trip to Lowes and incurring additional expense for a mattress cover. The retailer then declined the return. At this point, I see no issues keeping the mattress, as opposed to landfill.

Even if you are correct, most is not all. And, in this instance it’s an almost new mattress. A three second search found these sites:

Or would you rather not even try and instead just keep it?

I agree with this. No charity in Colorado will accept mattresses due to bed bug problems.

Our son furnished a nice bedroom for us to stay to babysit the kids, and he asked what mattress we wanted in the room. I chose the Casper mattress at Costco. It's very nice. I am so pleased with that bed, but we have only slept in it once. I think we will be spending a lot of the holidays at their house to enjoy time with the kids and grandkids. And if it snows, we won't drive the 1+ hour to get home.

Rick could sleep anywhere. He never complains about a bed. I guess all of those nights on the hard beds at the firehouse, all lined up dorm style in the upstairs of the firehouse, was a good thing.

Personally i don't see an issue with keeping the mattress. In my area, some charities do accept mattress, but do require a fee to accept them. Goodwill will take the mattress for a fee but then shreds and recycle the materials.

Reverse Logistics, (taking stuff back) is challenging and expense for most companies. I have had any number companies, including Amazon tell me to just keep or trash an item instead of shipping it back.

Years ago we purchased an mattress and were not happy with it, after much back and forth it was replaced with a different one. I have no doubt the one we returned went to landfill or hopefully was shredded for recycling.

On this occasion, we don't require you to return the original. You're welcome to keep, donate or dispose of it - whichever option is most appropriate and convenient for you.
In my situation, keeping it is easier and I like the mattress so I plan to keep it with Amazons blessing. I might buy a power ball ticket today, lol. Above is what Amazon said in their email to me. I wonder how many mattresses that Amazon gives away. It seems like a loser product for them or these things are so profitable they don't care.

Were still mattress shopping. I might try Costco because they will take a product back if we don't like it. My wife needs a plush bed and I can sleep on anything. Maybe a Casper.

At home we have the Ara Sleep Science adjustable bed from Costco. It was great when I broke my arm because I could sleep with my head elevated. I was in an immobilizer for a few weeks to keep my shoulder in place, and I am a side sleeper. The bed was comfortable enough, especially with the pain pills, to sleep really well at night. I love it but it is firmer than our old bed. I did buy a layer of top foam that we placed under our mattress paid. We bought the top layer from My Pillow. It made a difference in the comfort of the bed for me. I am so picky.

Thanks for posting the actual text from Amazon. I had no idea they suggested keeping it as an option. Nevertheless, I would feel compelled to attempt to donate it, but that’s me.

But...... what if you had an empty bedroom needing a bed ? Originally, we moved our select comfort bed downstairs and tried out the foam bed. Currently the select comfort is upstairs again and the memory foam is downstairs.
