Has anyone succesfully used their Anazon Firestick or Google Chromecast at Grande Vista? Both will conbect to the betwork but neither can access the internet.

We used our Roku without a problem, but their internet system is a little flaky there so call the IT people and they'll help you out.

The problem at Marriott resorts (as well as many others) is that they have a public network but it requires in browser authentication to actually access the internet. You usually have to input your name and room number and accept the terms. Calling the IT people that are responsible for the internet at the resort will take care of it. The IT people are not onsite but rather a contractor/call center that maintains the internet for the resort. You will need to know the MAC address of the Chromecast or device you are using. They authorize that MAC address and you are good to go.

Keep in mind that another possible solution might be using your cell phone as a hot spot for your wireless needs as long as you have a data plan designed around that use. Then you are not at the mercy of the quality (or lack of same) of the resort's wireless network.
Of course, this also assumes good cellular reception at the location in question as well.

I subscribed waiting to see what others posted since I use an apple TV and not either of those options. But for the Apple TV there is no formal browser so it's not possible to authenticate from the item itself. Historically I've had some luck calling the IT support for the internet and having them to authenticate manually. Recently I've had trouble at the last 2 or 3 Marriott's I've stayed at where it was an issue they refused to do so saying it was up to the resort due to contractual constraints and it required a high level decision which normally would take 7-10 days.

I normally travel with a travel router so I set up the travel router first as a wired AP and then once I had it working, changed it to a wireless AP (Access Point). That way I sign in to the router wirelessly with a laptop and I open a browser window which then gives me the option to authenticate from my laptop. It authenticates the router so anything that's connected to the router is good to go. It also bypasses he restriction of volume which I often get at certain resorts limiting me to usually 4 connected devices since this only counts as one.

Here's the one I have https://tugbbs.com/forums/index.php...romecast-at-grande-vista.277756/#post-2176609 though one should be able to find it cheaper than that listing. Here's the newer version of their travel router, This is amazon's listing as a "Newer Model" https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wireless-Travel-Router-TEW-714TRU/dp/B00FEE7LW2/ref=dp_ob_title_ce but it's slower. This appears to be the newer model that's more comparable https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wir...946955&sr=8-3&keywords=trendnet+travel+router . I also have an even older D-link which is actually exactly the same as the Trendnet just 150 instead of 300 speed. There are several other choices I see on Amazon. One thing I'd caution to consider if one goes this route is that most of the newer ones are simply plug into the wall rather than having a separate power supply. This can be good but it could make it easier to forget and often times there isn't a plug that will be easily accessible in a good location for the router.

I’ve used my fire tv devices at every Marriott resort and hotel I have been to without much trouble. Sometimes I have to disconnect their rediculous tv boxes so I can properly use their remote to change the input and control tv sound but that’s easy.

Does the browser authentication not automatically come up on fire tv when you connect to their WiFi? I am pretty sure mine always does.

I have on occasion used my phone as a hotspot. This is usually when the resort internet speed is slow or uncooperative.

I have had good luck with Fire TV. I like the added convenience of the browser to authenticate. We have used all over at MVC without an issue. Biggest issue is access to HDMI port on the TV and a plugin.

I have used various TV boxes and sticks in all the MVC resorts we have stayed at.
Mostly, I have found a way of connecting to the resort wifi successfully, sometimes by trial and error.
I did have to call the IT support guy at one resort, where I had a problem.
It can be a challenge though, the way some TVs are mounted, getting access to both power and an HDMI socket, so I always take a short 2 socket extension lead with me.

We can generally can get our iphone and ipad securely connected to resort's internet, so we use a lightning to hdmi cable and use the phone, which has access to my netflix and amazon accounts, my pictures, and screen mirroring, so we don't need to fuss with connecting a fire stick, roku stick, chromecast or whatever. The adapter is about $15 and available everywhere.
