We are heading to the Marriott Ko Olina around mid February. I tried making dinner reservations for any night during that week. Its over 3 weeks out and none were available. There were openings for breakfast and lunch. Is it really that hard to get reservations for dinner? Any thoughts as to how we can eat there for dinner?

Aloha CP73,

I would keep trying. Folks that do a lot of Disney vacations, including DVC Members like myself plan way ahead. Some of those rez's will likely get cancelled, though I think your dates will fall into the busy Presidents Week holiday week? If so, you may or may not snag AMA AMA for dinner. Have you tried to book online or called? I would keep checking the website for rez's often:

https://resorts.disney.go.com/aulani-hawaii-resort/dining/reservation/

And if you have not already called the restaurant, I would try that as well. Worse case scenario I would stroll down there very early and see if they could get you in.

I've stayed at Aulani a few times now and LOVE it! Though we liked AMA AMA for dinner, I much prefer breakfast or lunch to enjoy that view! Good luck! :)

Yes our dates fall into the Valentines/Presidents week....I will try your suggestions and call. I might just make reservations for lunch or breakfast so I can try it..

update: just called and got reservations for 8pm on Saturday night....later than I wanted but hopefully we can stay awake! I did see that on the website, but called to see if better. Lady said its same system whether you call or do it online...also to check back every day....

The location is good. But does the food get good reviews?

I think I would prefer Monkeypod.

Aloha Kapolei, great name for a question about a resort there, btw! :)

I have eaten at both AMA AMA and Monkeypod several times as we have stayed at Aulani for 3 different trips. I agree that the reviews are sometimes harsh toward the Disney eateries. I frequent tripadvisor.com often and the funny thing is most of them bash Aulani for their food prices. I think their prices are pretty much what we see in all our time spent in Hawaii and for that matter at any nicer place here at home in central FL. DH and I have only eaten at AMA AMA and the lounges for all our meals so I cannot personally comment on the other dining locations at Aulani.

Overall both DH and I prefer the food we have had at Aulani over Monkeypod Kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I've had items at both that weren't my favorite but after trying several dishes and drinks at Monkeypod we weren't overly impressed overall. There were a couple of items we tried at Monkeypod that were excellent: a flatbread pizza with garlic and Hamakua Ali'i mushrooms as I recall, and a poke trio. Very nice. Their Mai Tais have a fabulous lilikoi foam but are strong enough one would be happy they were walking not driving after having one! ;) We found the service at Monkeypod to be VERY spotty. Had really poor service the first time but to their credit they did finally get us someone who would actually wait on us. I do not recall them comping an app or anything for our exceedingly long wait for service after being seated.

AMA AMA does have a far superior view as it is ocean front. As I mentioned earlier, we actually prefer breakfast and lunch there. Dinner was fine but I didn't find it outstanding the time or two we did dinner there. I have talked to lots of folks that thought their dinners there were fabulous. For breakfast DH loves their upscale version of loco moco and I love their ginormous bowl of oatmeal and fruit. And their french press of 100% Kona coffee is divine. For lunch they have a huge (shareable) chopped salad with all sorts of yummy ingredients and a furikake seasoning that makes it extra yummy. Can't recall what DH loves most for lunch but we have not had a breakfast or lunch there that we did not find very good.

My recommendation bottom line is to try both. Monkeypod has an aloha hour that can be nice (as does Olelo Room at Aulani btw) and is a very easy walk across the street from Aulani so it shouldn't be too bad a walk from MKO. If you cannot get that dinner rez you want OP, go for breakfast or lunch. I think you'll enjoy it!

Just now saw your update, CP73. Congrats on the rez. I would definitely try for a much earlier rez so you get the view and sunset. Be diligent watching the website and I'll bet you can get what you prefer. Check OFTEN. If it was me I would try for the first seating times. Good luck!!

Across the street is Roy's (in the Golf Club). Expensive, but food is very good, and an easy walk from Marriott's Ko Olina. You do need reservations.

Also, on Tuesday night, Marriott's Ko Olina does offer an on site Luau. They have the Chief and his fire dancers, and the show is excellent! It comes complete with an all you can eat feast and you definitely need reservations. You do need a reservation in advance, and for $10 more you can get premium seating (which I would advise).

Enjoy the trip!

Love Roy's, TimeTraveler! That's a terrific suggestion for another very nice dining option. We frequent the one on Maui a lot since we own at MOC, and we love the one here at home in Orlando as well.

Thanks for Roys. However, we have one here in Orange Co and one out in Palm Desert that we go to occasionally. I can get that here at home. I agree though it is good...

Aloha Kapolei, great name for a question about a resort there, btw! :) ..................

I live near the resort ... :) Stayed at the Marriott timeshare many times on staycations. I was at the grand-opening of Aulani ... but I have yet to stay there. I have been to Ama Ama (but only for lunch quite some time ago so I can't really rate it). I will say the morning would be my favorite time there when all is peaceful and the crowds are still sleeping. I am not big on crowded pool scenes.

We have had recent news stories of Chinese developers coming in to make more hotels. And the most recent story was Atlantis Resorts are taking a serious look at the property next to Aulani.

I am happy just the way things are:) Aloha

What a lovely place you live in! I love that Ko'Olina is away from the busy-ness of Honolulu personally.

I'm with you on the morning being a special time to eat at AMA AMA (or any oceanfront locale for that matter). As for the announcement of Atlantis coming, I have been following the news on that and I certainly have very ambivalent feelings about it. Atlantis is supposed to be a very nice resort but it seems it would be quite a different resort from the others in Ko'Olina IMO. I was very happy to hear the Four Seasons was taking over the Ihlani JW. Seemed like a win for Ko'Olina. I cannot imagine how crazy the lagoon will be at Aulani if it is shared by THREE huge resorts…. yuk….

Agreed, things have a potential to go too far. This is Hawaii not Florida. Disney did a terrific job with Aulani in maintaining the character of the area. It is yet to be seen what will happen with these new resorts.
