We have loved exchanging into Grand Luxxe over the previous years via SFX, but cannot anymore because of the 1-in-3 rule. Are there any other similar resorts rec'd? Looking for similar level of luxury and resort activities and are open to any areas of Mexico.
TIA!
The 1-3 rule is now implemented in all exchanges (SFX, II, RCI) as well as even ThirdHome now. The only way "around" it is that you'd have to use the other exchanges (ie: RCI/II). If you have Interval it's probably the better option only because they seem to have more and larger units vs. RCI. But if RCI is your only other option, then that would work.
The 1-3 is not "across" the Exchange companies (yet--Vidanta changes things at their whim), but rather 1-3 "within" each Exchange. However, you'll need to factor in the RCI/II Vidanta-imposed resort fees (some can be quite steep, IMO) as well as the exchange fees and your points/exchange cost. In SOME cases, it's almost equal to what you could rent from an owner via Redweek.
As for "similar" quality resorts. I'm not aware of anything in the same area in Riviera Maya or Nuevo Vallarta (that aren't mandatory AI).
In Cabo, Vidanta only has Grand Mayan level and it's a close walk to downtown San Jose del Cabo, so if you want that, the only option (IMO) is to get into Cabo Azul.
As for "quality" if you don't mind being on the resort (ie: NOT close enough to walk or you need to take a 20+ min cab ride), then there's some nice ones that are not AI in Cabo (either in the Corridor or closer to downtown). Solaz (if you can get into it) is open again. Vista Encantada is another. There's a third in Cabo area, but I'm having a brain fart and can't recall it.
