Alternate MOW with DVC?

Hi - Just got back from a great week at Marriott Ocean Watch. 3 Short months ago we got back from a great week at Disney though not at a DVC. It occurred to me that in an imperfect though close enough world I'd like to vacation every-other-year in a DVC with MOW the other years.

Constraints:
DVC would HAVE to be on the specific spring break week. I could be flexible regarding which resort but not the date.

Marriot should be an early June week but 1st vs 2nd vs 3rd isn't a huge deal. If we had to settle for Hilton Head it would be OK but it had better be rare.

So is there anyway to work it out that I could be reasonably certain that we could spend every-other-year in Myrtle Beach and Disney? Is it reasonable to think that a Platinum MOW week was tradable for DVC? Is it more reasonable to think a spring break DVC property was tradable for MOW?

If MOW had an EOY option it would be easy since I could buy enough DVC points for a once every two year trip.

Thanks in advance for the brain cells.
Dave

PS - If I have any decent MOW pix I'll upload in a day or so.

Does MOW offer an EOY purchase option? (I'm not familiar with East Coast Marriotts.) If so, then buy it and also purchase DVC points in the amount needed to travel spring break week EOY. We own both DVC and Marriott. We enjoy both for different reasons. Although you must vacation during spring break now, your life most likely will change over time and with DVC the points allow flexibility. For detailed DVC info go to the disboards.com and check out the DVC message boards.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

If you need spring break for DVC for a certain week, I'd definitely buy some DVC points. I've seen spring break weeks for DVC in II, but it's usually a studio and I wouldn't want to count on getting it on a regular basis through II.

It's nice to own some DVC points to be able to pick up the phone and call DVC at the 11 month window and book what you want. If you have a favorite DVC resort that you want to stay at, try to buy points there to get the advantage of the home resort booking window. You could buy enough DVC points for a trip every other year. DVC has a special right now where you can buy 100 direct from Disney for Animal Kingdom Lodge. The buy-in is usually 160 minimum direct from Disney. If you buy resale, you can buy as little as 25 points.

I don't know much about Marriott's Myrtle Beach location, but my guess would be an early June week would be easier than later in the summer. Maybe some Marriott owners will chime in on availability at MOW.

MOW would certainly trade for DVC, but consistently getting spring break would be the tricky part, especially if you needed anything larger than a studio. DVC trading for MOW would be hard in my opinion, simply because other Marriott owners get priority through II for Marriott to Marriott exchanges.

Unless... you found DVC owners to trade (direct exchange) your Marriott with...

Sorry - I wasn't clear in my initial post - MOW doesn't have an EOY - I was simply lamenting.

We have friends who visited us at MOW last week and also love Disney. They really liked MOW but have always been more the beach house types. What I should do is ask them if they'd consider doing a deal where each family would buy one and swap every other year.

I'll put it on the mental back-burner until details on the new DVC property are announced. (next to the Contemporary Resort - expected this summer)

As our friend says it's great to have 1st World problems.

EOY at MOW

Marriott does indeed offer EOY at Oceanwatch. ...they tried to sell it to me last week.

That's exactly what we did; we decided that we wanted to be in WDW when in Orlando, so we bought 160 points at DVC; we are in the market for a Marriott EOY Platinum (preferably lockoff) to use primarily as a trader; that way we can alternate Orlando--usually during Mass school vacation--and some other Marriott property (or trade through II).;)

Really? I was interested in owning EOY. When I went to the sales presentation in April of this year. I was told there was no EOY option available at MOW.

Also, do you remember how much the EOY option was?

EOY

I don't remember the specific views... but I pointed out to my wife that the plat prices were between 18 and 21 thousand. ...That stuck in our minds because that's what we paid for our platnium "oceanview" every year pre-construction.

So sorry - I was misinformed.

I can't see paying Marriott as much for an EOY as I'd pay a reseller for an every year. But that's just me....

Totally agree

You're right-- resale every year can be found for $18,000.
