Has anyone ever slept for more than one night on one of the "air beds"? Not talking about the expensive ones you actually use as a permanent bed, but the type you'd use for camping, or overnight guests, such as one made by Aerobed, or Coleman.

We are considering buying one (queen size) to have for overnight guests, and also to use ourselves for a couple of nights, when moving into our new condo in Sarasota (before moving our furniture into the condo).

I've read alot of reviews, but would like "first hand knowledge" from any TUGger that has slept on one, and your comments. Thanks.

Sure! I own one I've used when "camping out" in a home I'm moving into or out of. I find it most comfy when also putting one of those foam egg carton mats atop the airbed, helps soften up the surface you lie on. Btw a good trick to inflating it...if you have a "cool" setting on your hair blowdryer, use that to inflate the bed. Works fast!

Carol: What brand do you have?

We have a couple of Aerobeds and they are good. Use them a lot at home and have taken them on vacations. We had one that went bad and they were great about replacing it within the warranty period, be sure to keep your information on it, if you decide to buy one.

We have several of varies size. I would prefer two twins over a queen. If the matress is not fill to "firm", when one person moves, the other will feel it.

We have used them for years when camping/traveling. Some were good while others seemed to leak out of the box. Thin ones seem uncomfortable but of course thicker ones are bulkier. Some even come with a folding plastic frame. Most now have some sort of built-in pump. Our current one fills with air to about 18" tall and is pretty nice. We pobably use it 2-3 times a year.

We have acoleman, and use it several times each year. My parents use it when they visit, since we got rid of our old sleeper sofa. My father has a bad back, had a couple of vertebra fused, and he finds our coleman mattress, on the floor to be more comfortable than most regular beds.

We have one for guest, and its really nice as it has a foldout portion that you stick the air mattress into and its height is about the same as a regular bed.

Go for it!

I purchased an Aerobed a couple of years ago after a friend of my son's arrived (unexpectedly) while we had other guests. It's a Queen-sized unit. It inflates and deflates very easily with the built-in pump that you plug-in to a wall outlet. I did find it kinda curls up on both sides when you inflate it as much as you can. However, it is comfortable. I actually slept on the bed for about 5 weeks during our move a little further south in Florida. I should add I have a bad back and it didn't hurt at all using the mattress, which it does on sofa beds, etc. So, I would recommend going for it...they are handy to have around for extra guests.

My comment would be sure to have them fully blown up. I recently slept on one and it wasn't quite full, and hated it.

Once fully inflated it was much better.

We have two Aerobed's, twin bed size, and, love them. I like them much better than a sleeper sofa.

I would think that a queen might cause problems in that they would transmit movement from one sleeper to the other much more so than a regular mattress. (I haven't had experience with this, but sleeping on a twin, I would think this would be true.)

My newly-married daughter has one and I have slept on it twice while visiting. Both times the mattress was COLD! Remember waterbeds when the heater broke? Same kind of thing. Bone-chilling. It was fine once we put a blanket between the mattress and the bottom sheet. I've slept on others and didn't have that problem. She probably bought the cheapest one she could find, so I'd suggest getting a name-brand.

Hadn't considered getting two twins, but I'm going to look into that. Thanks for the input.

Right now I'm considering either an Aerobed, or a Coleman based on reviews, and the previous comments from TUGgers.

I agree with your father. I use mine for camping or sleeping under the trampoline with the grandkids. I have 10 inch rods and some big honken screws with lots of wires & clamps all the way up the spine. I fill it until its very firm.

We have 2 single coleman, used on numerous occasions, to sleep on a tent floor for more than 5 days at a time. I would recommend 2 singles rather than a queen size so that each person can adjust their bed. If you use them on the floor they are very cold and definitely need blankets under the bottom sheet.
