Ahhh, the Sun is headed North!

Spring is in the air!!!! OK, so we have 3 months of Winter to get through. Happy Solstice!

Jim

Here in NY we FINALLY had warmer temps- to 40- and- wait for it! SUNSHINE! I think we had like 3 sunny days these whole past 2 months. Was the most gloomiest Fall I could ever remember! And it seems like we had a more early "winter". A foot of snow, then an ice storm, frigid temps.

Hoping for an early spring!

I guess I shouldn't mention the fact that here in California we've had perhaps 40 sunny days or so the last two months--and that, on the days when the sun was not out, we were rejoicing about the rain in the flatlands and massive snows in the nearby Sierras to make the ski resorts happy. Nor should I mention that our nighttime low temps have been in the high 30's or low 40's during that time. No, I guess I shouldn't mention that. That would be downright cruel. :)

Well the sun really doesn't travel, we do. LOL

We had a snowy Halloween and now a green-ish Christmas. OK, it's mostly brown, but it's not white and the temps have been hovering around 50 since late last week.

For some reason this came to my mind just now. Here comes the sun!
Fond memory- one winter we had been under a wicked inversion for over a month. The air was truly skunky down in the valley while the ski hills were in bright sunshine and people were skiing in shorts. The radio station I listened to at the time played "Here Comes The Sun", and the wind blew out the inversion and the sun came out. It was magical!

That reminds me of an interesting observation many years ago. We were flying out of Toronto Pearson one winter on our way to the Caribbean. From the ground, there was a heavy cloud cover, with occasional light flurries...definitely a day we were happy to leave behind.

Our flight took off and soon cleared the low cloud cover into the sunshine, to our pleasant surprise. I was sitting in a window seat on the left side of the aircraft. We turned south-east and headed out towards Lake Ontario. To my shock and delight there was the top of the CN Tower, in the middle of downtown Toronto, sticking up all by itself above the top of the clouds in the bright, clear sunshine. The main observation level, which also includes a revolving restaurant, was just above the clouds at about 1100 ft above the ground. The upper SkyPod level was obviously well above the clouds at almost 1500 ft.!!

This was long before the age of instant communication with Twitter or Facebook. I thought that if only there was an enterprising manager in the restaurant that day who could find a way to let everyone know. They could have made a killing: "Leave the snow and dismal day behind...come join us for breakfast in the sunshine above the clouds this morning." I have not seen it again since. Still sticks in my mind.

We went to a Christmas party next door early this evening and it was such a beautiful, warm day that the doors were all thrown open and we moved in and out of the courtyard and house to mix and mingle. Love weather like this in late December!

Color me envious! Sounds wonderful!

First, we need to enjoy this day and the reason why we celebrate The The Birth of a Child.

Then we need to celebrate January 1, 2020 the beginning of a New Year and a new decade.

Then three (3) months or even four (4) months later of winter will be over and we can all smile
because Spring is on its way. IMHO.:whooopie:
