Going to NYC next month for a conference....and will be staying 3 nights. While work will reimburse me for 2 of the nights (only a portion of the hotel cost), I want to stay for a long weekend, so don't mind paying for the extra night. As of now, I have a studio (twin beds) booked at the Affinia Manhattan (via a travelzoo special) for $209 per night. With taxes, it comes to over $700. After reading reviews on tripadvisor, this hotel seems like an excellent choice. Today, travelzoo has a special at the Algonquin hotel ($189/night + continental breakfast for 2). This hotel is closer to my conference venue (Marriott Marquis), and tho obviously a bit cheaper....the reviews are not very encouraging. If you've been to either (or both) hotel, could you give me your opinion/advice?

Thanks in advance. DEB

Deb-

Can't speak to the Algonquin. But I have stayed at Affinia hotels, both the Dumont and the Manhattan. Wonderful. Going back again this summer and staying at the Manhattan thi trip. I suggest reading my review in the TUG reviews section. Affinia hotels ar part of Royal Holiday Club TS.

I have also stayed at the Affinia Manhattan. I had a 2-bedroom suite that was HUGE and had a kitchen. The hotel is showing signs of its age -- but the matresses were great, the linens were really nice and they had AVEDA shampoo and lotions that I really like. I can't recall the price but it was quite reasonable -- especially by NYC standards.

I just came back from my second stay at the Affinia Manhattan. I agree that it is showing a little signs of age, but only as far as the asthetics. It is very comfortable and everything is in working order. The beds are great. I had a studio and a one bedroom. The studio is a good size. The staff is fantastic. Ask for a high floor, so you'll have less noise. As far as the location goes, it is located near several subway lines, so it is easy to get around.

The restaurant choices aren't too great in the area, but Tracks (inside of Penn Plaza) is a good diner type restaurant. I also found really good pizza on 31st and Eighth called Supreme Pizza. Also, I ordered room service for breakfast and it was reasonable and good.

I think you'll be happy at the Affinia, can't speak for the Algonquin.

Thanks, everyone! I did read your reviews, Patty. I think I will hang on to my reservation at the Affinia...sounds like that is an excellent choice. :D
