I'm planning on spending a month in Maui next Jan. or Feb. I want to use my AA FF miles. I know I need to book early . Jan. 2 is now available. They will hold it for two weeks. I cannot book the outbound flight for Feb.2 until March 10 (329 days ahead). In the meantime the first flight will fall off the screen. Their suggestion was to wait until 2 weeks before March 10, secure the outbound and than on March 10 the inbound. MY fear is if I wait that long than the Jan. 2 flight will no longer be available. Has anyone found a good way to deal with this?

I am not sure this is the case with AA, but I can change dates without extra fees if I kept the itinerary the same with UA. IF that's the case, I'll book Jan 2 now, then in two weeks, book Jan 16 for return flight. Then when Feb 2 flight becomes available, I'll change the Jan 16 flight to Feb 2.

In the past AA has allowed me to put my outbound flight on hold for 10 days and then extend the hold until my return flight became available.

Delta did the same thing for me. I think the hold was for two weeks, and they even allowed an extension since I was going for three weeks.
