If I were to advertise the rental of a timeshare I own in Palm Desert / Palm Springs, CA on a craigslist site, what city should I do it in? What city or cities would give me the biggest response for those spending their winters in the desert of CA?

Are the "snowbirds" mostly from the state of Washington, from Canada, or from somewhere else?

Is it "Desert Hot Springs" ? When I searched "Desert Springs" on Google Maps it came up with a town called "Apple Valey".

I would probably go with LA, Craigslist doesn't allow you to post the same ad in multiple locations, but I've seen other posts here that say if you change your ad enough you can get away with multiple locations. Palm Springs is another option (if it is infact Desert Hot Springs).

Palm Desert.
Thanks, I corrected it.

I had my Shadow Ridge unit listed in the "Palm Springs" section. I reasoned people were going to look in the area they were interested in going. It's my understanding that if you vary the listing enough, you can get it posted in more than one area on craigslist.

One tip - to keep it at the top of the listings, delete your add every 48 hours, then repost it 15 minutes later. If you try to delete it before 48 hours, it won't let you post it again.

Cheers!

Los Angeles - and watch for scammers - either others wanting to "help" you by recommending a group that helped them (clearly implied to be an arm's length referral when it is not) - or if you are renting, an infamous doctor coming down for his honeymoon. CL is great but it does have a lot of scammers and your listing does have to be constantly refreshed. That having been said, a lot of folks from LA come down to the desert. Funtime

Thanks for this tip - I was wondering how people seemed to have the same ad posted every day.

Variations On A Theme.

I haven't tested it lately, but I believe that it's only exact duplicates that won't go back up before 48 hours.

That is, change a little something here & revise a minor detail there -- alternate wording, new headline, different word order, etc. -- & you're good to go even before 48 hours.

It took a lot of changes to get the listing past the "48 hour police" that I finally said phooey and stayed with the 48 hour rule. The furthest it would drop down the list was page 2. Not too bad. Granted, it was my first time posting with craigslist, so I'm sure there are many Tuggers who have figured out what hoops to jump through. On the down side, the scammers find you more often. :)

Cheers!

Thanks.

I posted an add in the Calgary craigslist a couple of days ago. Tonight I will change it up a bit and post in the Las Angeles craigslist, and then maybe in the Palm Springs list as well. I doubt I will want to do this every 48 hours, but thanks for the tip. I will definately "bump" them up at least every so often. :D

It would be interesting to know where the people come from however.
