I am looking at a timeshare at Vacation Village at Parkway. Its has $92,500 RCI points and that are selling for $680. The biennial maintenance fee is $680 . This seems to be a really good deal and I spoke with a reseller that TUG recommended. What are your thoughts because I'm about to purchase! :cheer:

If I am not mistaken, the RCI TPUs that it gets are bananas.

You could very likely get the same ownership for free if you look a little and are patient. I got my EOY 84,000 with MF of $730 EOY for free with upcoming MF paid from a generous Tugger.:cheer:

Just spoke with RCI and they said the points are not associated with trading power. Is this true.

This is true, when you buy a points ownership you get the use of your points. If you purchase a fixed week you may then deposit it with RCI in exchange for TPU's (trade power units)

The points a particular unit is assigned is a direct function of its trading power (location, week of the year, quality designation by exchange), be they RCI points or RCI trading power units.

TPUs

So if I purchase this timeshare and it is assigned red week 32 and has a value of 92,500 points....am I going to have that amount of points in my rci account or is it going.g to be less with trading power.

Ok I see, I misunderstood.

Two different currencies. RCI points, in your case at least, is 92,000. You use these points at other RCI points resorts. TPUs for your resort may be something like 20, which you use at other RCI weeks resorts. TPUs may flucuate based on supply/demand or simply when RCI feels like it.

I just wanna make sure that I will be getting 92,500 points and I can use all these points for vacation elsewhere. Don't think we will utilize vacation village much but will travel more in the southeast region. $680 for 92,500 points???

The maintenance fees at VVP are under $800 which puts your maintenance fees per point at less than a penny...thats a good price

If your new account comes with some points already in it, that would be an even better deal

The $680 you have to pay for this is a one time thing and not a whole lot to spend, but the folks here that commented that you could get it cheaper if watched and waited are right..These contracts are often given away

TPUs are much higher than 20 there for a 2br lockoff

Points question:

On the weeks side, the highest they have is 60TPU's, i know you can get more then this for a deposit, but all exchanges are 60TPU's and under...

Is there a Maximum point value on the Point side like there is on the weeks side?

Don't you hate it when someone starts a sentence off with... No offense, BUT...
I sure know that I hate it when I see that.

No offense, but.... it sounds like you still have quite a bit of researching and reading to do before you obligate yourself to buying a timeshare right now. I have personally used Sumday for a timeshare purchase and I had a wonderful experience with them. You can find several threads on this site with many, many pages of peoples' experience with Sumday. You just have to search a little.

Also, what you are looking at is RCI Points. There is a difference between RCI Points and RCI Weeks. The TPUs are for RCI Weeks, and the 92,500 points is for the RCI Points system. Many here on this site own both Points and Weeks, as each have their advantage/disadvantage. Before obligating yourself to such a significant obligation of owning a timeshare that requires a closing, yearly maintenance fees, etc. , you will be doing yourself a disservice by buying before you have invested a dozen or so hours in understanding the whole timeshare game that is out there.

Just my .02 cents. I hope I am not coming across as overly confrontational here, as the true purpose of this site is to help people understand the reality of timeshares vs. the 'dream' that sales people often confuse the general public with. :D

I am not offended by your post at all. I am searching for the right thing to do and the best offer for the $$. Believe it or not i have been researching for several days for many many hours. i understand the difference between RCI weeks and RCI points. I understand that RCI weeks are weeks and RCI points are points. The timeshare that I am looking at has a fixed week but can be converted into RCI points in the amount of 92,500 RCI points. I understand that I can either take the week or exchange into RCI points. I will post the link to the timeshare that I am looking at and you can give me your feedback. It seems to be a pretty good deal but you know how that rolls. This is why I joined TUG to hear different viewpoints. Take a look at this offer and let me know your opinion. Thanks

OK, so this property is very commonly talked about on these forums. Many people on this board own this very property (in various allotments of point allocations). The underlying week that is generating these points is the highest for this property at 92,500. This is a very nice property and many people love this place for visiting Disney World on the cheap. Here is the fact sheet that I have on this place:

1. Cannot trade into Disney Vacation Club units (any of them), because this property will blacklist you being that it is in Orlando.

2. Can easily be picked up on ebay at the end of the year for $200-$500 for the 92,500 point allocation, and will often include closing and transfer costs, along with a free 92,500 points in the account.

3. Good maintenance fee to point ratio. However, can do much better with PFD.

4. Can easily be traded into with 9,000 point trades and/or very low TPUs. Almost always available for trading into at any time of the year except Christmas, and Spring Break. Then you would need the full amount of points.

5. Is contained in the Vacation Village 'Package' of resorts and will allow preferential trading at 11 months out - before the general population will ever see inventory from the 25 or so other resorts within the Vacation Village 'Package.'

6. Good resort for getting into RCI Points, but mostly for the tri-annual packages of points of less than 20k points per year.

6. They charge $50 a week for Wifi access.

Hope this helps you.
