Adding to MVC points via secondary market

First of all - thank you all friends for all the information shared on this website- super helpful.

We made 2 purchases so far through Marriott of MVC points. I wanted to get to the executive level of 7,000 by purchasing through secondary market- which is much cheaper than buying through Marriott at their vacations presentations.

Are the points in the secondary market exactly the same?

Will my status increase with the extra points, or does Marriott not consider them as valuable.

Points purchased resale will work exactly the same as points purchased directly from MVC and count toward your status- but only if you pay MVC a $3 per point ($3,000 minimum) fee. If you don't pay it they won't count toward status and you will only be able to use those resale points to book stays within 60 days of check-in.

That’s awesome! Do you mind me asking if this is what you experienced? We went to a Marriott presentation today- and for obvious reasons- sales person said no way - why would they allow that? If others had the exact experience- I would feel more confident in buying more. Specifically, we are trying to up our status so we can book earlier - having trouble booking anything lately! The salesperson doesn't want someone "cutting his lawn" (i.e. taking away his commission). Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Buy resale and save yourself a lot of $$$$$$.

Currently passing ROFR somewhere between $3 and $4. Don't forget to add $3 per point to enhance your resale points.

Yep salesman said no way can you buy resale, we will take them.

I then said, I already did buy 2,500 points resale....... He said well you wouldn't be able to do it now.....lol.

I know full well that a lot of them are full of but it still disappoints each time I see it confirmed.

Confirmed! I contacted Marriott Vacation Club owner services - and this is what I hot back:

If you buy the points with our Sales team you will receive the benefit of some gifted points at the moment of your purchase, however, if you purchase externally you will have the upgrade in your level to Executive.
