Hello,

We own a The Club with HGV Max membership. Is it possible to add resale points? If so, do you know how the points would be treated?

what is "The Club"?

generally, resale DEEDED points are just like other DEEDED points, except they don't typically count toward elite status.

if you're a trust owner from the Diamond side (DRI), that's a different story. resale trust points have restrictions from what i've read.

The Club is part of Diamond Resorts membership. So, when they post charts of what falls under which membership type, ours is called The Club with HGV Max.

Edit...our points are trust points. We own the Diamond Resorts US Collection.

are you thinking to add more DRI trust points or an HGVC deed, via resale? i believe the answer will be different based on what you want to do.

I would say either one as I'd like to know as many options as there may be available.

if you buy a deed, your 'new points' would be available to book at the 9 month mark for any HGVC resort. you can also book your home week 12 months out.
the 'new points' would only be available for DRI resorts at the 6 month mark. that's my understanding at least.

OP is asking about The Club which is reference the HVC/DRI resorts not HGVC. The OP even posted correctly in the HVC forum.

If OP or anyone else owns HGV Max from the HVC side and purchases a resale HGV deed, that resale HGV deed would have only HGVC access and no HGV Max access, so could not be used for an HVC (old DRI) or Embarc reservation. Similarly, if someone owns HGV Max from the HGVC side and purchases resale HVC points, those points will not be in The Club and will not be able to be used for an HGVC or Embarc reservation.

One interesting thing I've noticed as an HGV Max owner from the HGVC side with resale HVC points, the resort credit portion of the HGV Max Tier benefits bleeds through to the HVC side of things because my two accounts are connected through the unified website. The open season credit does not. I'm not sure about the room upgrade part of things as I only recently got the HVC points, have only made one reservation on that side, and don't have any experience with how the site shows upgrade for tiers. I don't expect that I'll have the room upgrade benefit, though stranger things have happened....

so many acronyms, so confusing. i thought:

1) HGV refers to the parent company (includes bHC, HGVC, and HGV/DRI, BG, Embarc),
2) HGVC refers to the deeded side (existed prior to DRI purchase), and
3) HVC refers to the trust side since the purchase, formerly DRI.

i thought that resale HGVC deeded points would be eligible for MAX DRI locations at 6 months, just like a retail HGVC deed. are you stating otherwise?

1) HVC referred to the overall company (includes both HGVC and HGV/DRI),
2) HGVC referred to the deeded side (existed prior to DRI purchase), and
3) HGV referred to the trust side since the purchase. formerly DRI.
HGV is the parent company of HGVC, HC, HVC/DRI, BG, Embarc
HVC refers to Hilton Vacation Club former DRI

HgvMax is an exchange between HGVC and HVC and one can be either HGVC member with HgvMax or HVC member with HgvMax (or actually even both)

My usage of HGVC is for Hilton Grand Vacations Club, the point system that includes the resorts of the original Hilton Grand Vacations and by Hilton Club resorts. It doesn't include the former Embarc resorts rebranded as HGVC.
your usage of HVC seems to align with what i think of as HGVC. when you speak of 'resale HVC points', what do you mean, deed or trust?
There are some older deeded ownerships on the HVC (former DRI) side of things. I'm not familiar with the intricacies of all of those - the only ownership I have on that side is a recent acquisition of resale HVC points at Cabo Azul that I picked up only to go there. They are points that someone had purchased based at Cabo Azul from DRI and so are not deeded. I've also picked up some former Monarch Grand Vacations points that haven't transferred into my name yet - they are also "resale HVC points" that will allow me to make reservations at the former Monarch resorts (which include Cabo Azul) but have no other rights within The Club (i.e., HVC, formerly DRI).
i thought that resale HGVC deeded points would be eligible for MAX DRI locations at 6 months, just like a retail HGVC deed. are you stating otherwise?
I do have resale HGVC deeded weeks that I acquired after having gotten into Max. Those weeks can be used for points rather than as weeks and are eligible for use in HGV Max, thus can be used for DRI locations at 6 months just like points from a retail HGVC deed. This is because HGV does not currently prevent the use of points from a resale HGVC deeded week in HGV Max - they could if they wanted to but don't show any indication that they will. That is a characteristic on the HGVC side of things.

On the HVC (former DRI) side of things, historically you needed to purchase additional retail points to "wash" your "dirty" resale points and get them into The Club. You can't use HVC points in Max if you can't use them in The Club. That has not changed.

We will probably just end up buying more developer points later on as we are Diamond side and don't want points only to use for The US Collection or only for an HGVC property if we were to purchase an HGVC deed. I guess we missed out on being able to combine points via resale by not purchasing an HGVC deed, but I believe everything happens for a reason. I would like more points, but honestly, using both our The Club points and the Hilton Honors points we earn from our AMEX credit card use will probably be more than enough to travel two weeks a year. Also, although maintenance fees might go up, we are starting off at $1225 per year, and that is quite enough for us right now. We have 8000 biennial points. It would be nice to upgrade to 8000 annual points, but again, I think the maintenance fees would be too high.

Thank everyone for the helpful information on resale for DRI The Club points!

NP. Honestly, I do believe that HGV has made their whole acronym naming scheme certainly confusing. And I also believe that it was on purpose.

Nothing they can't easily clear up in an owner's update for anyone that is confused [sarcasm].

yea, talk about all the things and benefits, and then the bewildered buyer has no idea what they bought. but it all sounded so good.

But nothing that can’t be rectified by making an additional purchase in the next owners update [more sarcasm].
