adding MR # to reservation

I have a getaway and XYZ weeks booked at marriotts. I used to be able to pull up the reservation on the Marriott site and add my number to it. I can pull up the reservation but I don't see the option to modify the reservation or add my number. Is the only way to do this now to call them?
 
Yes. You must call either 1-800-Marriott, or the gold or platinum lines, and even then, they sometimes say they can't do it because it is a not a Marriott res., and they "cannot" change anything on an II res. However, just call again for a different agent if you get the wrong answer, and they will add the MR number. I had to call twice this time, and even on the Platinum line they once said it couldn't be done.

And I only give them the Marriott reservation number, not mentioning that it is a getaway or exchange. I would think they could see that, but some just are happy to add the MR, and others focus on the II connection.

That's weird because you used to be able to do it on-line. I called a couple weeks ago to add it to another reservation and they told me I had to do it at check-in and I told them I was afraid I would forget so they added it for me. Maybe they are trying to not let us get credit for these stays or at least make it harder.
 
It's been awhile since you could add your Marriott Rewards account # online. I call the reservations number and ask them to add it. About half the time they'll say they can't touch an II confirmation. I used to just hang up and try another agent. But I've started to say "I've been able to add my number in the past. Would you please just try it and see if it will take it?" They give it a try and it always works!
