I'm in the process of acquiring a VV@Parkway as my first timeshare. It has 92,500 points annually. I'm thinking of buying a week units to take advantage of the discounted exchange fee if I book VV properties. I saw a free (just pay closing costs) Woodstone at Massanutten, 4br lockoff, fixed week 52. I'm thinking of getting it to get access to the week TPU side. Is that a good idea or should I wait?

If you own in points, you have access to all the inventory in weeks. There is really no reason to acquire a traditional week just for exchanging. The points week can do it all.

Before acquiring something more I would use your new account. Get a feel for how many points you need and what is available to book in RCI.

By contrast, the weeks side cannot see everything. You can't book RCI points stays with TPUs.

Thanks for the advice. I'm getting 277,500 points to start with. 185,000 expiring July 2023. How many weeks can I get? I probably won't be able take advantage of discount points deals as we are bound to school calendar.

I have 98K points a year and over our ownership have averaged two weeks a year of vacations using points, usually in 2 bedroom units.

We are also bound by the school calendar, but do live in Florida, where there are many timeshare resorts within driving distance that we can take advantage of, some for lower-point stays.

With that many points, you will likely run out of possible vacation weeks to use before you run out of points. I would start booking as soon as you can. Maybe you have some relatives or friends who want a vacation week as well.

Yes, I'm waiting for the transfer to complete. It's been 4 weeks so I think I still have at least another 4 weeks of waiting....?

That is good, you should do some internal exchanges too with affiliated VV resorts the exchange fee is less than RCI. We have stayed at many VV resorts they are nice and in various parts of the US. Enjoy your new timeshare!

Not unusual to have to wait. But knowing you have a lot of points to burn you can start planning. I would also suggest becoming a TUG member and looking in the sightings thread. It can help you get a feel for some of what is out there.

How do you do internal exchange with points? Is is also within RCI but different menu? Or does VV have an internal exchange program?

VV's internal is through RCI. Some people in points seem to get a $159 VV to VV internal exchange fee into weeks inventory using their VV points but others do not. I get the reduced exchange fee only through my weeks account. I have mixed vv and non vv points others with just vv points seem also to have mixed results.

Your best way to find out is thru someone who owns a VV account, I am not an owner. Have thought of buying in but have been able to exchange my timeshare weeks for VV . Have also done last minute and extra vacations thru RCI. We stayed at Vacation Village at Parkway for a week and I wrote a review. It was enjoyable. We have stayed at VV in Weston many times. Also Berkshire Mountain Lodge in Massachusetts. Away We Go has more experience traveling into VV in Parkway. Ask him for advice.
