Actor Harry Morgan Dies At 96

Loved him in MASH. I didn't realize he was that old. RIP

There was a MASH reunion on TV a couple years ago and they had him on the recreated set with many of the former cast and he looked VERY old and feeble then.

Still have our Tivo unit catching episodes & occasionally finding one with parts we either hadn't seen in quite a while or forgot some of the details, particularly with the first and second seasons.

He seemed to be a gentleman. Harry Morgan was even Jack Webb's partner on the radio version of Dragnet before it moved to TV.

R.I.P. Col. Potter.

Slight correction: while Morgan did appear in a few of the radio episodes of "Dragnet" as a supporting character, he did not become Webb's partner on the series until it moved to television. :)

Thanks to Netflix, I've been working my way through all 11 seasons of "MASH". Currently starting season 11. I must be the only person on the planet who didn't watch it when it aired.

Cheers!

Still interesting to watch the 1st/2nd season episode when he starred as a semi-crazy general, then know that soon after, he came onboard as a regular in a completely different role.

Sort of like the "Bobby in the shower - it was all a dream" episode on Dallas, I'd have loved to have been in the meeting with writers and producers. I'm sure some some made the arguement, "It's best for the show" (both of these shows went that approach), vs others complaining, "there's no consistency; it's illogical; viewers will be confused."

Spoiler Alert: Don't venture if you want to see the complete series from the very beginning.

McLean Stevenson was good, too. I remember the episode when they announced that his character had gone down in a helicopter ?
Lt. Col. Henry Blake.

Spoiler Alert: ...

The episode I was referring to was from (according to wikipedia) season 3 episode 1 (Sept '74). Beaglemom3's episode is season 4 episode 1 (Sept 75).

I believe the statue of limitations applies: shows that ran 35+ years ago, don't get spoiler alerts!

Thanks ! Wasn't sure about the statute of limitations as it applies to early TV (as it dates back to early Roman Law.) :D

Thanks, Nancy. I'm corrected. Harry died. Bill Gannon lives on.

Great actor, not so sure about the nice man part but anyway ...

Loved him in MASH - it's on TV everynight between 7:00 and 8:00 - often one "older" episode with Henry, Trapper John and Frank and one "newer" with Colonel Blake and BJ and Charles.

Jim, didn't mean to be critical. "Old Time Radio" has been an obsession of mine for many years. The radio version of "Dragnet" is one of my favorites. If you'd like, I can forward links to some terrific web sites where you can stream all the great shows! :)

Cheers!

We get MASH reruns here almost every day on TVLand. I didn't see them when they originally aired, but for a while was able to watch them late at night. I think they're on during the daytime or early evening now.

Anyway, I became a big fan; for some reason, DH isn't as interested.

.

I thought I read there was a little bit of scandal about him 5 or so years ago, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about it in articles related to his death.

There's an over the air channel on the air called "MeTV" here in LA carrying the MASH episodes along with Dragnet, Marry Tyler Moore, Adam 12, Rifleman, Bob Newhart, Odd Couple, Rockford Files and more all from that period.

RIP Mr. Morgan.

I always thought he was a very poor actor; sounded like he was reading his lines from a que card. From Dragnet through MASH. JMHO.
