Acquiring More Points for Next Tier Level

Have a question and hoping someone can assist. I am in the process of purchasing additional points, currently in ROFR process. Assuming the points sale go through, it’ll take me to the next “tier level” in status. However, I was just told the first year of usage for these new points would be in 2024. If I went through with the sale and lets say it closed in a couple of months.

Would Marriott change my tier level status effective when the “new” points are deeded in my name (in 2023)? Or would they recognize my new tier level of status at the same time of first year of usage in 2024? I am wanting to acquire additional points now versus 2024, in the case Marriott raises the points of the tier levels.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Chances are very good that when these hit your ownership (within a couple of months) that your status will be adjusted to the next level. You shouldn't have to wait to 2024 for your status to be changed since you will own these extra points in 2023.
