? about ebay private i.d's

i noticed on some auctions the bidder is only identified as "BIDDER 1" while in the same auctions the bidder identity is actually shown. now i do occassionally bid on ebay and am wondering what i have to do to keep my i.d. private to avoid the 'SECOND CHANCE OFFERS" from showing up in my email.
