I haven’t booked a ticket in a while so I missed the change. Is “main cabin” the new “basic economy?” Or is “main cabin” the old “regular“ economy? Please feel free to answer this question anyway you’d like. I just don’t want the ticket that boards last, puts you in the middle seat, and you can’t use the overhead bin.

I’m trying to book tickets for my brother to Hawaii next year. Hopefully things will be better.

Basic economy is the same cabin, however you don't get some things with it, like selecting a seat. I think you might not get a carry on, but that might depend on the airline.

I personally never book basic economy as I like to preselect my seat.

or

.

And it has more restrictive change/cancellation policies.

You book 'Main Cabin', then you have the option to select a seat- more legroom- aisle- exit row, etc. then pay for the upgrade. Think of basic 'main cabin' as inside. No frills. you might get lucky and have overhead bin space- or maybe not. It's a bus with wings.

I think that on United, if you have their credit card, you still get a carry on and all the other benefits you usually get for having the card.

You can just pay to get an assigned seat. Sometimes the difference between the two is significant.

Main cabin is the old economy. Basic is the new no frills option, boards last, likely middle seat, etc. Get main cabin.
