I'm trying to comb through information and the newest policies revisions regarding points reservations. Do I have this right?

1. Changing/cancelling a reservation 61+ days out - no "additional transaction fee".
2. Changing a reservation 31-60 days out is treated as a cancellation so I'm essentially forfeiting the 1st reservation fee to make a new one.
3. Changing/cancelling within 31 days out incurs various levels of points loss
4. Purchasing Cancellation Protection lets me cancel within 31 days out WITHOUT loss of points

Here's my follow-up that I can't seem to find. Assume this scenario is more than 61 days out: I have a non-home week club reservation involving 6000 points. We can't stay as long now. Can I modify this reservation (61+ days out) to use only 5000 points? I recall reading somewhere that if you LOWER the amount of points used in a reservation that you forfeit those points. Is my brain just messing with me or is this a thing? Thanks in advance...

I believe since you're 61+ days out you can change and use less points. I *think* the "must use same/more" was within 30 days of check-in.

You are allowed to change a reservation at 61+ days out without loss of reservation fee to whatever.

This is correct. I have shortened and lengthened my reservations several times. I’ve even changed seasons, room sizes/designations and resorts just so I don’t have to pay the fee.

Until 61 days out, changes with +/- points have no penalties.
If I cancel, my points would be returned , but I'd lose the booking fee.

Starting 61 out, I will lose my reservation fee, but keep my points.
Point penalties will start 30 days out (unless I have protection).

But having to pay a new booking fee isn't the end of the world.
If you look at it as a "change fee," it seems almost reasonable.

I like the “change fee” description.

If I have protection can I CHANGE a reservation within the 30 day window, or can I only cancel? Or am I in essence changing it by canceling the original with protection and starting over? (If that makes sense)

That's a good question. They haven't said how they're gonna implement the new rule.
Used to be, the change-button was just always there. But now, will it disappear at 61 days?

Maybe they'll leave the change-option, but warn that it will result in a new reservation.
Then, at least, you'd could choose between the old & the new before confirming.

If "cancel" is the only option given, you may want see if your new booking is available, first.
