A Kingsland Review and Property Comparison

Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a Roku to the TV? Since neither of my streaming services will be available on the TV and DVD players are no longer available, I'd like to be able to watch something in the evenings while I take care of business.
Yes it is possible as we did so this past May...but my mind is a bit foggy as to how "easy" it is. Disclaimer: I have no problem lifting the TV up and off the mount to install my Roku and then hang it back up.

I thought checking in was officially at 4PM not 11AM or 3PM. So I don’t think that complaint is valid.
I think it's valid as the complaint was more process related and less "time we got in" related. That said, my suggestion for Kingsland (and generally these days as more resorts offer it) is to get their text message service number and use that to request updates on room readiness.

While I was at Ocean Oak, I moved the entertainment cabinet to expose the HDMI port in the wall for the DVD player and just plugged my ROKU stick right in it. Worked like a charm.

Not sure how many properties have that port, but it did work very well.

I had to circle back to see that this was in response to what I had written almost a year ago :)

it seems that you may have misread what I wrote. The room not being ready at 11AM was not a complaint. Just a comment and a comparison to other Waikoloa properties where we had gotten this sometimes. I agree. Would have been a lagniappe. But not a complaint.

As to 3PM, the room was ready. The issue was with the lack of the promised text. Yes, it is earlier-than-guaranteed check-in, so that's good. Promising to text when the room is ready and failing to do that is not as good.

Cheers.

We looked at doing something similar at Elara. In this case we wanted to move the DVC player from the bedroom to the living room. In this case, it would have involved the player and the HDMI cable. But the cable went into the wall and back out, so no luck there. I guess it prevents theft :)

Cheers.

It is 4:00. And I don’t know what all this was about, but our stay here has been awesome for the last 12 adult stay days. Blows away the other choices on this island.

It's all subjective, it's our favorite also, and why we own and go there every year.

My brotherinlaw came this year for his first visit to Hawaii and he said we made the best tour guides, we know the BI so well. He took a day hop to Oahu to visit Pearl Harbor and said whoa what a zoo upon returning. He was tired of rice and Mac salad with every meal by the time he left.

We never get stressed over check in time, we pack swimwear in carry on and lounge at the pool upon arrival, it's a lot easier travel from the West Coast. I can see where the Midwest and East Coast folks get grumpy.

We travel from the West Coast, and I agree. It's nice when an early check-in can happen, but I don't expect it. What I do expect is that when they tell me they will text me when the room is ready, they will text me when the room is ready. Not tell me, when I happen to check back, that the room's been ready for a while and then the text shows up as they're talking to me/likely sending the text. I just consider that bad customer service. And it matters more with groceries to out away.

But that is not the same as expecting an early check-in or questioning/complaining about the posted check-in time (and I know you weren't the one that incorrectly implied such a complaint :))

Cheers.

There are just so many people who expect early check in and late check out. People don't consider that the units need to be cleaned and they don't automatically clean themselves (at least not yet).

This summer we were staying at the Hyatt Sierra in Tahoe with Sat only check-ins, and most of the summer is home week usage (so not as many people checking in on other days). The manager sent an email a week ago to all those who were checking in to inform them if you will be arriving late so they can prioritize the other units. I thought that was a great email, and helped people understand the situation with labor shortage.

The units don't get cleaned on their own. Somebody has to do it, and that requires time. Timeshare units are larger than a hotel room. There is a kitchen, and some people leave a mess behind. Hotel rooms usually don't have a kitchen and the space is smaller so the mess will be smaller. I believe Kings Land has Sat check in for home week stays. I know many points bookings don't necessarily start on Saturdays but I can imagine if you are checking in on Saturday, the housekeeping crew is busy. What do you do when someone calls in sick due to covid?

If I want guaranteed early check-in, I often book the night before. If I need a check out later than 10 AM, I often book the night after. It's easier to do in some systems like HGVC and WorldMark than others like Hyatt.

I'd rather have a clean unit than early check in.

But were you not offered the $100 before you even knew about the $699 package?

Exactly. This is what we do also, just as we are doing this trip. These flights off the Big Island tend to be late night, so we book an extra night so we have the condo all day and don’t stress.

Yup. We did this on a recent trip to NYC (night before and after). I realized I wanted to do it for our Kingland trip (we have extra points). By the time I thought about it (way too late) the night before was gone. C'est la vie.

Exactly! Although on our last trip the dishwasher was still finishing up when we got there. I'm good with that. :)

Cheers.

@SmithOp where did you take your brotherinlaw to?

Example: He wanted to see the Kamehameha statue in Honolulu, but skipped it once we went to Hawi and stopped at the one there. He went to Punchbowl instead to visit the memorial, he's a military history fan.

All the usual BI activities, snorkeling, shave ice, Mac nut tasting (he wasn't a fan of the spam flavored), chocolate farm, Zipline, Volcano park, Place of Refuge, Coffee farms, Donkey Balls, Seahorse farm, L&L Waimea, Mauna Lani Fishponds and black sand beach, turtles basking at A-Bay.
