You're invited to a party where you meet a self-made gazillionaire, but in talking with him, you get the impression he's lost his marbles. He offers you a proposition:

"If I promised to pay you $750 million dollars to jump from an airplane without a parachute, would you do it?"

You know he has the money.

What's your answer?

Yes. And then I would do it from a plane sitting on the ground. With a mattress underneath.

Two hypothetical questions

What's a qustion? :)

What color is your parachute?

Touché PJ! Care to play along? ;)

Thus far I'm surprised by the lack of interest in playing along in this hypothetical. It's of course not real, and folks here don't seem shy about offering up their opinions on other topics. Interesting indeed..

What good would the $750MM do me? And is there such a number as a gazillion? I probably wouldn't because he would have to by lying about his/her money.

Now I feel like I'm in the dunce chair, obviously missing something that the smart kids know!

Real or not, I'm not jumping out of any planes! Can I hypothetically ask the gazillionaire for another challenge?

Your not alone...

Jimy Williams was asked a number of hypothetical questions during the press conference when he was introduced as the new RedSox manager. In response to one about Jose Canseco, he said, "I know if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his booty."

Is that a correct answer here?

A female frog wouldn't, but I'm not so sure about a male frog.
In any case, if Mr. or Ms. Froggie has wings, then jumping out of the plane without a parachute wouldn't be a problem!

"Maybe." Gotta give him a chance to provide more info.

What would be in it for me? No, that's not something I'd consider for even a second.

I agree, I couldn't care less if the airplane had a parachute- as long as I did!;)

BINGO!!! Correct answer!!!

Correct answer is "maybe, but I need a little more information".

The wealthy person only provided you a shred of information, and some would have sacrificed $750 M by providing the wrong answer. No, money isn't everything, but that fills a lot of charity baskets.

Answer yes, and you could be a dead duck, but not necessarily. Jump from a Dreamliner at 35,000 feet and you're not going to survive. However, what if the wacky wealthy guy explained it this way (after you've asked for more information, of course :):

"the aircraft is a two-seat Cessna 152 and it is parked in the hangar with it's engine off. Now, for $750 big ones, what's your answer?"

Rhonda got it right. Congrats Rhonda!

I think wackymother got the answer. The question asked for a response and gave no details. She didn't need to make any rules; she answered the question and outlined under what conditions. I'm sure she prefers small bills! LOL:cheer:

Most are willing to provide a response or opinion when it matters. A hypothetical that is just plain dumb isn't worth the time to consider. That said, I can't believe I cared enough to return to this thread and respond now. :D

Why would a gazillionaire be willing to give me $750MM to just about four feet out of a parked airplane?

But remember, he's a gazillionaire losing his marbles. Giving away his play money to folks who perform for him is at least a little more sane than just burning it. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Unless they die and their relatives sue him for a gazillion dollars.

So sorry to see you feel this way. My wife & I have been using this hypothetical for many years in talking with engaged couples to emphasize the importance and need of communication, and having the complete picture before offering judgements. Many couples eyes light up, and offer "wow, I never really thought about it like that".

Oh well..

I hope a few others accepted the message, and maybe even learned something. We never stop learning.
