While we were on Kauai, a wedding was performed directly in front of our unit on the beach. I am sure the bride and groom will never forget it!

They had about 20 people in their group, dressed in resort casual for the wedding. The groom and best man stood on the beach and their guests lined up in two casual lines, kind of forming an aisle for the wedding party to walk down. First the the mother and father of the groom walked down the "aisle." Just as they started walking, a man walking down the beach wearing only a red Speedo, stepped in front of the groom's parents, and proceeded them down the aisle, while looking around curiously as if he didn't understand what was going on. When he reached the groom he stopped and stood shoulder to shoulder right beside him, as if to stop and see what everyone was looking at, and watched the rest of the wedding party proceed up the aisle - still obviously not knowing he was in the middle of a wedding wearing only his red Speedo! :D

In a minute, the Speedo guy's wife and 2 children (also in Speedos) caught up to him, and they also stopped in the middle of the wedding party and gawked. When the bride started walking down the aisle, the Speedo family finally caught on and moved on down the beach - it was too funny! My husband and I were just cracking up at the looks on the faces of the wedding guests! I wish I had gone and gotten the camera, but I was afraid I would miss something!

Since you see more Speedos in other countries than the US, I am going to assume that they were foreign visitors.

What a funny story and how embarrassed they must have been when they finally found out what was going on. Weddings on the beach may not be that popular in Europe. ;) I would think they are more popular in warmer climates or where the Speedo came from originally.

Don't you love your full ocean view, Denise? :D

While we didn't observe anything quite that interesting, we did observe a wedding ceremony each night on the beach in front of the Mauna Kea condos
in Kihei, Maui. Saw both traditional and " natural" proceedings.

Are you saying "natural" as in "clothing not required?" A friend was recently telling me about a really nice B&B in central California, and it's "naturalist" swimming pool area. They couldn't figure out why a B&B would encourage scientists to study animals around their pool. And then they realized they were misreading the word. Naturalist was actually spelled "naturist."

No, they were all clothed! Perhaps I should said "Hawaiian, pre Christianity".

On our first trip to Maui we rented a condo near Napili. Had a great oceanfront location with a patio that went out towards the pool to the laundry room. I grabbed an armload of laundry and quickly ran off the patio right into the middle of a wedding by the pool. Oops! I quickly high tailed it out of there and then went around the building to the front door. But if I had been wearing a speedo maybe I could have stayed.;)

I liked comparing the attire at the daily beach weddings when we were on Maui. Some of the brides wore sensible dresses and sandals. Others had long dresses and high heels. I wanted to follow one and see how she managed to walk on the beach, but dh was ready to go "home" for dinner.

One of the ministers always wore a traditional looking robe. Another wore a suit and tie. Yet another just dressed in a cotton shirt and slacks.

Guess I'm easily amused, but I enjoyed the show every afternoon, usually just about the time we were leaving the beach.
