I am taking my mom and dad to Las Vegas for 3 nights in March to celebrate Mom' s 80th birthday. We are staying at the Venetian. I would appreciate suggestions as to which shows are best to take them to. They want to see a "girlie show". Are there any that are tastefully done so I will not be sitting next to them squirming in embarrassment? How about musical performances? They live in NYC, so don't really want to see Broadway type shows in Vegas.Lastly, which restaurant in the Venetian do you recommend? Thank you!

They are all tastefully done, assuming you mean a follies-type show, and not a "Gentlemen's Club," which is a whole 'nuther thing.

Take them to the granddaddy of all, the Follies Bergere at the Tropicana. I've seen the show; its good, and you certainly won't be embarrassed if that bothers you. There's no full nudity.

I don't eat out much in the large hotels, the only restaurant I've eaten in at the Venetian is Delmonico's, which is quite nice. But for a special occasion you can't beat Commander's Palace in Aladdin. Tell them its a special occasion and they will decorate the table and give them a gratis dessert.

Try Zumanity, the "adult" Cirque du Soleil show at NY NY. I thought it was a lot of fun. No full nudity - topless is the extent of it and it's not for very long.

Bally's Jubilee is a good show and you wouldn't be terribly embarrassed. :)

If you think that you will be embarassed, then why not drop them off for the show, then pick them up when it concludes. They may enjoy getting rid of the "kid" for an evening!

Thank you all for responding. Now I checked with my parents and they have seen both Jubilee and Folies Bergere!
Zumanity is a great idea, but I personally am not a Cirque fan. I get very restless during their shows. Maybe I will drop them off and go see Blue Man Group, which I know they would dislike,

Does the Platters and Coasters show feature the original musicians (they must be quite old) or imitators? My mother hates "loud music". How loud is it ?

Last month someone on Tug was recommending the Clint Holmes show. Would that be something older folks would enjoy?

I will plan on dinner at the Commander's Palace one night, great suggestion.

I'm not sure about how many members of the Platters, Drifters, and Coasters are original members, if any. But the music sounds like the originals. Its mellow music, harmonies, etc., so it shouldn't be a problem. Its a very good show, made better by the price.

I love Clint Holmes. He's a multi-talented, very charismatic singer. I think your parents would enjoy their show also. Or they might enjoy The Scintas, who appear at the Rio. You can google all these and listen to clips of their shows to make your decision.

Clint Holmes would be a show both you and your parents would enjoy. It's one of my favorite shows in Las Vegas.

There was also a fun, smaller show at the Riviera, but I can't recall the name, and I'm not sure what is there now? It had just a bit of topless nudity.

Clint Holmes

We enjoyed this show and I think that your parents would love it. He does a great Sammy Davis Jr. set.

Fern, is his mother still around. the old folks would love her part.

For casual eating try the Lux in the Venetian ( I think that's the name) There cheescake is from the cheesecake factory, which is across the street at Caesars. I 'd recommend that restaurant also. They make a mean portabello mushroom sandwich, just don't forget the cheesecake!!

Clint Holmes would be great, (the oldies shows, Platters, etc) aren't too loud.If she likes impersonators you could go to Legends in Concert or for fun & frolick go to La Cage. We really liked it. shaggy

Its the Grand Luxe Café, and its got a huge menu. It is owned by the Cheesecake Factory.

Just returned from this trip and it was great. I want to thank all you Tuggers who helped me with the plans. We had an outstanding lunch at Commander's Palace, decorated table, impeccable and friendly service, great food, great $.25 martinis. We went to both Folies Bergere (early show where the dancers are clothed) and Clint Holmes. My parents loved them both, esp Clint Holmes. We got half price tickets for each show at the half price ticket booth on the morning of the show.
We stayed at the Venezia tower at the Venetian. Very, very nice.
My parents were last in Vegas 6 years ago. They were amazed by the amount of construction going on, and the changes in 6 years. We were there on a Mon and Tues and the sidewalks were packed. I cannot imagine what it is like walking around on a Sat night. Overall, it was memorable and celebratory for my mother and I do appreciate all the Tug wisdom that went into planning this trip.

Glad to hear that they had a good time! There's something here for everybody.
