500 free SPG Starpoints when booking room

Hi Gang,

www.travelglitch.com is a website devoted to finding and reporting customer favorable mistakes with travel related on-line booking systems. It reports this glitch with Starwood’s on-line booking system that results in awarding 500 bonus SPG starpoints with each online booking.

I just tried it for an upcoming Westin stay. I’ll let you know if it worked.

I don't know about this one. I'm all for getting a great deal, but this one seems a bit unethical.

At some point in time, a publically known and easily fixable glitch stops being considered unethical to use and starts being an acknowledged, or at least ratified or impromptu, marketing plan by the entity that continues to allow the glitch with knowledge of it.

I found that link via flyertalk.com. Starwood has a dedicated employee stalker on flyertalk.com (who unlike here on TUG actually posts helpful info and comments about Starwood.) Accordingly, I think it’s safe to say that Starwood has knowledge of this glitch.

Travelglitch.com posted the 500 SPG point glitch on December 7, 2007. This means Starwood has had at least nearly 4 months to fix it if it wanted to.

I don’t know if the glitch still works, but if it does, since its been public knowledge for nearly four months and Starwood still hasn't fixed it, I think it's safe to call it a marketing plan now and start using it.

Well my data is inconclusive. Since I'm an SPG Plat, with all the rights and privileges vested therein, I was entitled to pick from the platinum welcome amenity list on check-in. (upgraded to a Jr. Suite too). That list included 500 SPG points, but to keep my test of this glitch clean, I chose and received the "beer and pretzels" welcome amenity.

Today, my SPG account posted 500 extra SPG points, but they are identified as "Platinum 500 Thank You Amenity.” Accordingly, I suspect the hotel just forgot about the beer.

Worked for me too.

Plus.....when I originally checked for this bonus. I found the room rate for my upcoming stay to be $30 cheaper. Double bonus.
