We're going to Mazatlan for the first time [next winter]. We need 3 extra nights.....[specifics removed] before our check in at El Moro Cid. Can anyone [suggest] a good, reasonable place to stay before we check in? thanks!

You might have someone with El Cid Points book you a room in the El Moro so you would not have to change hotels or pay a high price for a room. What size room do you have at El Moro?

Extending a timeshare stay in Maz

We have extended timeshare stays several times, including at least twice when we stayed off-site (rather than pay the timeshare property to extend our stay). Once, we stayed at Captain Moe's (http://captmoe.com/) in a cozy 2BR unit, and once (when it was just the 2 of us) we stayed at La Hotel Siesta (http://www.lasiesta.com.mx/). both were good options. Captain Moe's was close enough to the Zona Dorada that after we checked out, we just walked over to the TS property where we were checking in.

Capt. Moe and Dorothy have been in the B & B business for a number of years. She (Dorothy) is my "sister" Lee Story's best friend. Lee says she is a wonderful cook. I've met Dorothy and Moe, and think they are nice people. Their place (they have studios as well as the 2 bdrm unit) is about 2 blocks from the main drag. They also have a pool. They are highly regarded on Trip Advisor.

La Siesta is in Old Town. It is right on the Malecon, across from the ocean. I think it is well kept, but I don't know about if it has an elevator or air conditioning. You should check before booking. If it meets your needs, it would be convenient for ocean watching, and going to El Centro. It's almost right next door to El Shrimp Bucket (owned by the Señor Frogs people, but more for adults).

I wouldn't suggest Priceline or Hotwire, because you might get Howard Johnson's/ Don Pelayo, which is not suppose to be too good.

There are also two AAA properties I know of, Fiesta Inn, across from Playa Mazatlan, and El Quijote Inn, which is a timeshare, north of El Cid.

There is no elevator at la Siesta, but the stairs are broad and the risers short, and there are handrails on both sides. There is no central A/C, but each room has a wall/window unit if my memory serves (we were there in Feb and had no need for A/C).

The Shrimp Bucket actually occupies the northwest corner of the first floor of La Siesta. One can enter from the street or from the Siesta's inner courtyard.

There is free internet access at a workstation in the hotel lobby, and free (but rather weak) wireless access in the rooms - I sometimes had to sit on the inner courtyard deck outside our 2nd-floor room to get a signal, but it's a very pleasant setting and part of the experience.

We walked from La Siesta to the Plazuela Machado, Centro Mercado, etc. One ambitious morning, we also walked to (and up) El Faro. Point is, La Siesta is in a great location if you don't have to be in the Zona Dorada.

You might just book hotel room in El Cid Castillia for those nights. Here is the El Cid website:
http://www.elcid.com/
That would be the least expensive and connected to the Towers. You do not have to book their AI plan. So just a room is fairly reasonable. You can punch in your dates and find out what the cost is.

I think there is also a Holiday Inn Sunspree just down the road from the Towers.. I do not know prices though.
