2025 Abound Points Charts

How is it that the amount of points to stay at your home resort in the season that you bought is higher than the number of points you are given to use? For Harbour Lake I could not use my points to stay at my own home resort since the points allotted to me are lower. They (Marriott) should really give you the same amount of points that they charge for your resort in the season that you purchased.
There's been loads written on this subject, think of the difference as an exchange fee.
1) As a rule of thumb: Don't elect for club points to go to your home resort, use your week for that.
2) It varies a lot depending on the resort and seasonality. There are a few locations where you can get a week in the season you own for less club points than you get from electing. The club points for election are an average of the points for that season less the fee aka "skim".
3) If you go Sun-Thurs the number of points required is a lot less than Fri/Sat. Combining a points booking with a week stay is a great way to get value using points.
4) Trading in II can be a better option, depending on where you are looking to exchange into, rather than electing for club points. You can't book a view, so if that is important you can book a view using club points.

As I referenced above, there is an inherent loss in a points system to to reserve an entire unit for the whole year will be more on points than the underlying week would get for the year, this is inevitable. Changing to the points system also allowed them to effectively rebalance the "cost" of each week in a different and more dynamic way than the seasons do. Not every week in a season has the same demand. Think of it more like if you're paying cash rather than looking at the entire season of your resort globally. There are weeks within both Gold and Platinum seasons that can be booked with points left over but overall it is more. Just use your week if you're going to stay at your resort. Honestly, HL doesn't make much sense for points anyway for many situations and it never makes sense for Gold unless one is stuck. The benefit to enrolling there is mostly related to exchanging and having points transferred in.

This has always been the case since points were first introduced in 2010.
If you want to stay at your “home” resort in the season you own just book with the week(s) you own.
Use points when you want to book either different resorts or perhaps your “home” resort in lower seasons or smaller unit types.

We're about six years into our points ownership and nothing has substantively changed in the number of points needed for resorts/times except the variances around holidays. Those variances also offer some opportunities for bargains if you shoulder around the holidays.
