Made a reservation for end of July as we needed to use points this year. We have only used our points at Waikiki. I’ve seen conflicting information about the access at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort with our reservation. Do we have access there to use the pools etc? Or is there a charge for that access? Also I think we have free parking at The Bay Club (?) how does it work at the hotel or is that within walking distance. Is there a grocery store nearby? Is there a member lounge available while we are waiting to check in or leave? Is there a recommended restaurant for a nice breakfast buffet with a view or a nice dinner with a view in the area? Not that it necessarily makes a difference but we are Elite members, do they use blue bands for keys etc such as the ones we received in Honolulu? Also is there a list somewhere that describes the differences between the categories of 1 bedrooms at The Bay Club? I’ve tried searching but haven’t been able to find that information yet.

You would have to pay for it---there are daily and 3-day options, IIRC. This is unique to Bay Club. The other two (Kohala and Kings Land) include pool access at the main resort.

I am not sure about parking at the main complex, but I suspect that is not included either. However it is a (relatively) easy walk from Bay Club. Lots of (moderately expensive) stores in the immediate area, or you can drive up the hill to save a few bucks at the cost of a few minutes.

As an elite member you have access to Kingsland pools when staying at Bay Club. BTW access to Hilton Waikaloa pools will come at cost. It was $75 a day or 3 days of access for $150 (access for up to 4 people). Though that rate has probably changed by now. You can call the front desk at Bay Club and they can tell you the current rates.

I "think" it may still exist, but if you go to the Hilton for their spa and probably the restaurants, you can get free valet parking. Of course you should still tip.

All of the 1BR are parking lot views. Have you looked here?

KTA Superstores, Waikoloa Village
68-3916 Paniolo Ave Waikoloa Village, HI 96738

I don’t know if this is the exact same one my brother referred to. But there was a grocery store in Waikoloa Village that he really liked. It’s a town up the hill from Waikoloa Beach Resort. There is also the ABC Store in the Queens shop which is super close. We do all our shopping at Costco.

What time are you arriving? Usually the rooms are ready at this resort. You can always hang out in the pool area which is directly outside the lobby. There are nice free cabana which are usually available.

We don’t eat out much but we have friends that we regularly take to the Bay Club and they absolutely love the Lava Lava Beach Club. It’s on the Beach at A-Bay. They go to breakfast a lot there. When we go to A-Bay to watch the Sunset it’s always packed.

We bought all of our groceries in Kona. Much cheaper but requires a car which you need anyway.

On our last trip we made a few trips to the Foodland and also bought some groceries at WalMart south of the airport when we were down in that area. We did gas up at Costco once, but with only two of us we didn't go into Costco to shop at all. We bought a couple of nice steaks and single baked potatoes plus green beans at Foodland on one trip and used the grills at KL. We liked that meal so much we repeated the exact same menu a couple nights later.

We went to Safeway south of the airport on our last trip Walmart was the goal, but we arrived on Thanksgiving and they were closed. This year, we will go to Walmart. KTA is nice, nut not much cheaper than the market at Queen's Marketplace.

There is a really nice fish place (Da Fish House) north of Waikoloa, in the Kohala area. Very fresh and good variety.

Cheers.

We love - LOVE the Bay Club. Parking at the BC is free, you will get a parking pass. There is a gate that uses your room key for access, but you can also just drive in at the Kohala Suites - the properties are connected. As mentioned before, as an Elite member, you can access the Kings pool and, quite frankly, they are nicer than the hotel pool. Last time we were there the pool was in bad shape and they were starting a remodel of the area. Also, that pool tends to be cooler than the BC and KL pools. There are virtually NO shops anymore at the hotel, really sad. You can grab a shuttle that will take you there to walk the property and look at the dolphins, but forget about shopping.
We always hit Costco for the main stuff - at the Queen's market there is a shop that has about everything you will need - but $$$. Foodland is another good option, or the KTA up the hill.
Tropics Ale House is a great spot for lunch - you can try the golf course for breakfast, their food has been pretty good but the service has been spotty for us. For a nice dinner, try Roy's and the Kings market - and for cocktails and pu-pu's Lava Lava is great (dinner is $$ and the food is so so). For big $$$ try the remodeled Canoe House. If you are going to Waimea hit Ippy's and bring your appetite - you won't need to eat for the rest of the day. Merriman's in Waimea is a great spot for lunch too, not as pricy as dinner and the food is just as good.
Have a great time!

If you enjoy a nice walk then you can stroll over to the hotel from Bay Club. Go down to building 1 then cross the street and walk into the maintenance entry, there is a walkway along the golf course all the way to Buddha Point, great for sunset view. If it's whale season (Jan-Apr) you can see whales tail slapping and breaching. You can also continue through the hotel property.

The Sansei Japanese restaurant in the Queens Marketplace has a happy hour special, half price almost everything on the menu, you will see people line up to go in at 4pm. Sundays and Mondays 4:45-5:30.

You can also go in the bus/tour entrance just pas this point, go up the stairs and you're right in the lobby. Much better than walking all the way around.

This is fabulous, something we do every time. It is popular with the locals, and visitors, so do go early as suggested.

Cheers.

Somebody mentioned walking over to the hotel. This brings up my next question. I’m a walker, but my husband is a jogger. Is there a safe, non rocky path in the resort area to use for a 5 mile run? Also, is it worth it to go over to Mauna Lani to check out the shops, eateries? Or about the same as the places in the Waikoloa area shops?

Being neither, I can't answer for sure. But there is The King's Highway Foot Trail, built by the Native Hawaiians before Captain Cook. I can't vouch for rocks. . .

yes, you can walk to Hilton. There are walkways to it. Also, there is plenty of areas to jog. I would pull up google maps and use the imagery layer to see the area.

The foot trail is a little unsteady, I would not run it. But there are sidewalks throughout much of the Waikoloa resort area. He might have to double back on himself but it is doable.

Yes, there are sidewalks all the way around the resort, from the shops all the way to King's Land, I see many joggers early morning. In fact the Lava man triathlon jogs around the resort.

Mauna Lani shops is smaller than WKL, the only upscale restaurant I can think of is Tommy Bahama. There is also a Thai restaurant and a taproom bistro The market is very similar to Island Gourmet in Queens, an upscale ABC store with a deli.

Mauna Lani has some other nice features, there is a black sand beach and fish ponds accessible through to two visitor access parking lots. The Fairmont has Browns Beach Hut, a luau, and the manta ray observation deck.

We run there regularly and, as others have mentioned, the Waikoloa Beach Dr. is a nice roadway for running. I run in the road rather than the sidewalk, but both are fine. The crossover on Maintenance Road has a little rise, but not bad. And the run can go all the way out to the highway on the KL side.

Very pleasant early in the morning.

Cheers.

If staying at The Bay Club and visiting Kings Land, do you have to pay to park? We are Elite members.
Thanks for all of your help!
