[2023] bonvoy nights credits from interval exchange

Once or twice I didn't get credit for an exchange. The rep on the phone told me something about a 3rd party transaction (like Expedia or Hotels dot com). I spoke to the person's supervisor and got credit.

What I've been doing recently is to go to marriott dot com site and plug in My Trips before hand. Then things work like they should.

In mid Sept. I was credited (in Bonvoy) for my Marriott Newport Coast. Currently I am at 50 nights credit - - all of which were exchanges through Interval. IIRC, there was a thread on Tug late August that included the wording of Marriott's T&C regarding credit. I saved the text (but not the original tug link):

https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi#vacationclub

2.1.d.ii. re Qualifying Stays excerpt: "Vacation Club Members and Residence Club Members (defined in Section 7 below) may also earn Elite Night Credit as provided in Section 7.1 and 7.2."

7.1.c. Due to the nature of the MVC Club and VSE Resort properties, the following special conditions apply to their participation in the Loyalty Program

i. Vacation Club Members will earn Elite Night Credit for a Qualifying Stay at MVC Club and VSE Resort properties, and for stays at Participating Properties as part of the Abound Exchange Program.

I believe the nights for my II getaway at Grande Vista where I checked out 2 days ago just posted to my account. It isn't in my qualifying activity yet but my nights this year increased by 7 nights. I had my Bonvoy account number attached to the stay at check out and had a few things charged to the room. I hope this helps the OP.

So here is the latest from a missing stay request and seems to be a new reason.

We appreciate the chance to help you with your account. However, our record indicates that this stay was a Marriott Vacation Worldwide Owner week stay, since you are not affiliated/enrolled as a Marriott Vacation Worldwide Owner, therefore you are only eligible to earn incidental points which are not on the folio. Please be informed that in order to earn credit, your account must be linked with your Marriott Vacation or Vistana. Therefore, your stay is ineligible for credit. Kindly note that guests cannot earn credit for ownership week that was gifted or sold to them. I would like to request you to please visit the below link to associate your Club membership with your Marriott Bonvoy account:

This was booked in my wife's name through II but I was able to only bring it up on Marriott.com using my name. Seemed weird but I was able to add my Bonvoy number. My wife is also primary on our MVC account and her Bonvoy number is tied to the MVC account. So it seems they are trying to say that because I am not primary and that my Bonvoy number doesn't show that I am an MVC owner, the stay doesn't qualify.

Well since I originally posted this I have had numerous calls with marriott bonvoy. The last person asked me to forward a copy of my folio which had my marriott number. A few days later I received a e mail crediting the missing nights to my account. When I originally made the exchange with interval they said that they could not add my bonvoy number to the exchange so I ended up calling reservations and they finally added it. It seems to be a hit or miss process with getting credit if you are using interval.

Your Bonvoy # was not your wife's #, who was the name on the reservation. The # must match to the person on the reservation or they won't give credit, regardless of anything else in my experience.

I know it does happen, but that is just Marriott being Marriott.

My name was on both reservations and I added my Bonvoy number to both prior to arrival and both were visible in My Trips on Marriott.com. This is also not the reason they are saying they can't credit the Elite Nights. One reason is because Bonvoy doesn't show me as an vacation club owner (true, because my wife's Bonvoy is tied to our ownership) and the second is because it was a third party booking.

I didn't realize the reservation was in your name, I interpreted the below to mean it was in your wife's name:

Well that one is a confusing one. It was booked in my wife’s name but i could only bring it up on Marriott.com using my name and the confirmation number. So I added my Bonvoy number to it. The other stay with the issue was booked in my wife’s name but we use an II guest cert to change it to mine. Something we have done countless times without and issue.

Strange. Seems like they have some mis-match in the system. Good luck.

An interesting tidbit on this one from Grand Chateau. I logged into my Bonvoy account today and saw that the stay and elite nights have been posted. I did nothing more after getting this response from them about a month ago.

We stayed a couple of weeks ago at Summit Watch on an II trade. I made exchange on my account, but DH is the one with platinum status. So while there we asked the desk staff to change reservation name and Bonvoy # to DH's. The nites credit was on his account soon after we got back home.

That's good to know. I may try that in the future. I usually burn a free II guest certificate to switch the name ahead of arrival. But now I only have one of those left till next June. I will just have to be careful when making the exchanges or bookings with II to make sure I am logged into the right account. Or use your trick to have the resort switch it at checkin.

I did the same thing recently at St. Kitts. It worked fine. My husband and I both have Marriott Bonvoy accounts as we each have the Brilliant card, but we are accumulating nights on one account to obtain the next level etc.

i have always gotten credit when I list my Bonvoy number at check in and spend some money at the resort. That seems to trigger it.

i too recently learned i can tie an upcoming interval reservation to my Bonvoy account in "my trips" . This allows me to tie my bonvoy acccount to the reservation before I even get there, so less chance of an issue.

Yes if you add the interval reservation to your Bonvoy account in my trips before you leave then you should not have any problems getting the night credit. I have never had an issue using this method.

I can attest that it isn't 100% foolproof as my prior posts have indicated. There are times things still go wrong and getting them fixed is incredibly frustrating. Right now it seems that Vistana resorts are more prone to error. We are going to be staying at SVV for a week and I am going to charge some food and beverage to the room to see if that works. We have added Marketplace/Boutique purchases before, but those are third party and may not trigger reporting. The resort doesn't even send you a folio if you have $0 balance. We have never automatically received elite night credits at SVV on Interval International bookings. It always seems to work okay when we book with StarOptions.

My issue has always been with Westin Mission Hills. I have had to fight tooth and nail each time, i.e. 3 to 4 times, before an agent would add the nights for me. They would not add points for spendings at the onsite, i.e. timeshare side, restaurant. I just give up on that. Similarly with Desert Springs spendings. Our most recent stay at the beginning of this year, we spent significant amount of money at the marketplace and got 0 spending credit for that.

I am going to try and submit another missing stay request for our Westin Mission Hills stay to see if they will finally post it.

Nothing is of course 100% fool proof. But this is a start and it’s one way to simplify things as much as possible before traveling with all the other recommendations.

Trust me, I do this every time. I just finished adding my Bonvoy number to all our reservations through year end.

This is an example where my OCD is a benefit! I cannot stand when all of my reservations are not shown in my Bonvoy account so as soon as I get an exchange, I embark on the tedious and always different process to add my Bonvoy number to the reservation. It has always worked (knock on wood) and I will continue doing it. I have always gotten ENC for my II trades.

While it seems the situation in the quoted post is resolved, I have the Elite nights for Grand Chateau. There are still issues with Mission Hills. They are adamant that my Bonvoy account must be associated as a VSE owner in order to get the Elite Night credits for a stay. I responded to their latest message with a somewhat terse response. If that doesn't work, I will try calling on the old telephone...

We just completed a stay Sheraton Vistana Villages using an II getaway and the nights have posted along with the 1000 point welcome give and points for spending. I did order a basket of fries at Breeze's restaurant to have a charge on the room. So this seems to have helped. Based on past stays, I found that charges at the marketplace and boutique don't seem to work . Likely because they are third party or just bad luck. We have had many stays at Marriott properties and checked out with a zero balance and don't have issues with the stay not posting.

Just reporting back on my Streamside stay that was a Interval Getaway. I purchased wristbands at the front desk and my stay credited 2 days after check out. Just enough nights to get me to Platinum this year.
