That is correct, guests at the Westin Mission Hills Resort VIllas (timeshare) no longer get access Westin Mission Rancho Mirage hotel. The hotel is still a Westin brand and still managed by Westin Resorts, but it is under different ownership and they opted to not allow access to guests staying at the timeshare. It has been like this for a few years now. I beleive there is a lot of discussion in this thread in the Vistana forum.

An Update from the board-ugh-
Hotel Amenities Access Agreement | The Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa As you may be aware, there have been restrictions on access to the connecting pathway and certain hotel amenities since the adjacent hotel, The Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa, changed ownership. The Board has been in ongoing negotiations with the hotel owner seeking to remove those restrictions. Unfortunately, at this time, the negotiations have stalled. The Board will provide additional updates in the future if the situation changes or improves.
Please note: The hotel owner is no longer offering the 50% golf discount at The Pete Dye course to Owners at The Westin Mission Hills Resort Villas. This is not part of the negotiations related to the Hotel Amenities Access Agreement
Also---
Speaking of golf… Westin Vacation Club Owners receive a golf discount at the nearby Marriott’s Shadow Ridge Golf Club. Owners can book tee times up to 90 days in advance. Contact the golf course at 760-674-2700 to book a tee time (please identify yourself as a Westin Vacation Club owner to receive the best available rate). Course information is available at www.golfshadowridge.com. Discount rates range between $125-$155 through the height of our season. Additional discounts and lower rates will be available beginning in April and through the summer months. Rates and discounts are subject to availability and may change without notice. Please contact Marriott’s Shadow Ridge Golf Club directly for rates and availability.

Yeah, here right now (mission hills) and they say at the desk that negotiations are not active, no deal at this time. Guess that agrees with the board.

Does anyone here know if the hotel uses parking passes? I.e., would they know if I parked over there as a villas customer. They have some nema 14-50 connectors I could use outside the parking garage, but not sure if they are hotel guests only. If they don't use parking passes, then must not be.

I think there is a charge for parking. I suspect that parking would be behind gated access. A quick Google search turned this hotel up on Parkopedia where you can book it for $8 for 2 hours.

Yeah, but there are some spots as I mentioned without paying (where the nema 14-50 are)... Hoping someone knows about passes or not.

The reciprocity between timeshares and an upscale hotel property nearby is never a deeded right and more of an agreement between resorts (probably in exchange for cash). A developer will initiate that during the sales process in order to promote sales. I still remember how they hyped up the St. Regis access at WPORV when we were there about 15 years ago. MVC has also done it with access to various JW Marriott or Ritz hotels nearby like Crystal Shores at Marco Island or Lakeshore Reserve in Orlando.

However, once a resort sells out the interests are not always aligned. Most timeshare owners are interested in access to the pool area or lazy rivers and such, while the hotel wants those guests to spend money at restaurants, spas and shopping. The hotel will always reserve the right to restrict access for timeshare guests during "busy times" - and if they don't get enough benefit from the relationship (I suspect most timeshare owners don't generally spend much money at St. Regis or Westin restaurants), then these types of agreements may not last too long after a resort is sold out.

Yeah, the hotel hopes they can extract money from the HOA (owners) through an agreed upon usage fee and have them buy their expensive food too. Then when they add new amenities they want to charge daily fees instead of just extending good will and renegotiating terms of the deal the next time around. Thus the owners generally don't have good will and won't pay the daily fees.

Does anyone know how the current relationship is between the Westin Kierland Villas and the Westin Hotel is doing? I loved the lazy river at the hotel but have not been there since ~2005 or so. Also, back then the Villas had people driving golf carts to take you to the hotel or Kierland Commons.
BTW at WMH is it true there is sign blocking the golf cart/walking path between the Villas and the hotel?

Yeah, but… when I stayed at WPORV in the past I ate at two of the hotel restaurants. I also stayed a night at the hotel. It is unfortunate that timeshare access to hotel amenities tend to be temporary.

The latest from the WMH HOA 3.30.23 meeting minutes:

HOTEL ACCESS Brandon Elliott presented an update on Hotel Access. Highlights included:
 The Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa placed signage on the fence blocking the pathway to the hotel from the villas indicating “…the Villas HOA terminated the relationship...”  The Management Company added signage to the Front Desk, Pathway and Welcome Letter explaining the change in ownership and management of the adjacent Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa
 The January newsletter provided additional information regarding the hotel access and the status of negotiations
 The Management Company is removing any remaining references to hotel services and amenities on all websites
 The shuttle lease for off-site associate parking is in legal review and expected to be available for associate use in the next 30-60 days. The Board discussed the current status and determined no further action is needed at this time.

"no further action is needed at this time" - management-speak for the divorce is final.

Final thought: blocking the golf course pathway is just mean spirited and degrades a fitness resource for both the hotel and the villas. "Children, your father is SOB. That is why I drove our car into his office".

Can you just walk around the fence? Isn’t it on a concrete walkway? Photos??

Resurrection of this thread for Westin Mission Hills - is the pathway permanently blocked, can you walk around it, does anyone have a 2024 status? The Mr. has a conference at the resort and there is a cheap AC for the villas.

I will have to see if I can dig up some video on it, but I am pretty sure it is fortified now with a chain link gate and no way to just walk around.

We are at WMH right now and the unsightly chain link fence and lock between the two properties are gone. I’m wondering if there has been a change to the relationship or if they’ve just decided to be more civil even if not affiliated. Anyone have an update?
