2022 SuperBowl Halftime Show

However, Baby Boomers will still control a majority of wealth for a long time. Boomers were much more frugal a likely to save money. The younger generations are more likely to spend a lot now at the expense of having money in the future. Of course, many are part of the Boomerang generation and keep moving back with their Boomer parents.
The boomers better spend it on themselves, thus their kids will just just do it for them.

I did enjoy the show, though it is certainly not my genre. I had to search info about the performers as they sang since I never followed their careers. Three were in their 50s, one 49, and one 34. The longevity is something to celebrate! Dr. Dre seemed so happy. I could not understand the lyrics, but no matter. Other shows have been worse.

Maybee your lucky you didn't understand them, you might be shocked. Look them up.

Can they move in with a nursing home?

This is a long read but very interesting about how the super bowl halftime show evolved. More and more the football is taking a back seat to the event of the the super bowl between pregame adverts and the halftime show. The length of halftime is the one thing I don't really care for.

Shocked? By a few words an entertainer sings in songs that millions of people have been enjoying for 25-30 years? I can understand that it’s not your taste. But shocked? C’mon.

Contrary to popular myth - the millennials are not what the moralist boomers make them out to be. They are actually the next Heroes generation (like the Greatest generation that came before the Boomers) that will usher us all into the next saeculum here in the US after we navigate the coming crises, most likely later in this decade, that will result in a reckoning of the many issues that boomers are either unable or unwilling to deal with now - meaning the massive unfunded liabilities and near bankrupt social programs that aren't being touched by anyone at present. Here's a breakdown of savings by generation:

Baby boomers (84 percent), Gen Xers (84 percent) and millennials (82 percent) are more likely than Gen Zers (70 percent) to be saving – though the younger generation started saving at an earlier age than their older cohorts, according to the survey.

Millennials started saving for retirement, on average, 11 years earlier than boomers. Anyone whose anyone knows that investing is all about the time value of money - the earlier you start the more you will end up with long term - and 11 years is a long time in so far as investment horizons are concerned. 82% of Millennials saving is even more impressive when we take into account the fact that the boomer generation has foisted massive student loans onto the Millennials (the vast majority of those in Congress and positions of power are boomers at present - so let's put responsibility where it belongs generation-wise at least).

Lastly -the vast majority of the millennial generation was birthed by the Gen Xers (my generation) - not the boomers - so the boomerang analogy doesn't apply to the boomer generation - it applies to the Gen Xer generation who for the most part birthed the Millennials generation. The boomers are also the boomerang generation - often moving back in with their children over the past ten plus years - because of a lack of retirement savings due to their predilection toward consumption. Here's a link showing the average retirement savings by generation:

While the boomers - who are already retirement age, have the most at an average of 202k, the Gen Xers have 107k with twenty years left to continue to save, and the Millennials already have 67k with 40 years left. Time is money - so both the Gen Xers and the Millenials are already ahead of the boomers.

It's clear that the racists surely hated the half time show.

Completely unfair. Disliking rap does not equate to racism any more than disliking country or EDM or Icelandic folk means you hate whites, or disliking Okinawa samisen means you hate Asians. This kind of kneejerk is why we can't have fruitful discussions about differences.

Fortunately I gave up on the No Fun League years ago, especially the Super Bowl Extravaganza so Half Time Shows are an irrelevant event.:)

Cheers

You missed the reference. Earlier in this thread, someone stated, "The fact that 17% of the population commanded 100% of the show was a big statement by the NFL." This person was clearly saying that all African Americans (which represent 17% of the US population) like Rap / Hip-Hop music. Sounds like a fairly racist statement to me (and at least one other person on this board).

I am too old to appreciate today’s music!

I even put closed captioning on to understand the lyrics but it only caught about 25% of the lyrics.

Perhaps that post should have been quoted instead of just throwing such a statement out there without any form of reference? I suspect the person that posted the latter statement meant for it to refer to a larger group than just that one post, or at least that is the interpretation of some.

I'm not a fan of rap, so much of the show was wasted on me. I did watch it, and thought it was well choreographed, such as it was. Obviously a lot of time and effort was spent putting the show together. What I found most interesting was the relative ages of the performers. We were talking about it during the performance. Proof that time marches on, even for those who refuse to accept getting older.

Seeing the younger generation getting older makes it easier for me to accept that my generation is aging too. Except for me. I'm way too immature to be this age. :D

Dave

P.S. I thought the game was pretty good, too. I wasn't rooting for either team, since they aren't one of "my" teams, but on the whole, it was a pretty satisfying game.

We like clean rap so the half time show was ok. I thought the same thing as you regarding the ageing younger generation. The main reason we watch the game is because Cooper Kupp went to the same High School as my youngest son and I. He played a pretty good game.

Bill, did i miss something "clean Rap" you mean like contemporary Christian Rap?

I googled the word clean. It doesn’t mention a specific music genre or religion.
1. free from dirt, marks, or stains.
"the room was spotlessly clean"

2. morally uncontaminated; pure; innocent.
"clean living"

We don't like excessively foul language, words depicting race, anything promoting violence to anyone and anything promoting hate to any group. Last Christmas Eve we include music for everyone so we did have Lil Nas X and some of the other similar artist on the play list. Hip hop rap isn't what I personally listen to every day but I do like it enough to have a few playlists with that genre of music included.

And yes, I like and can dance to Ice Ice Baby, lol.

Bill

Maybe the should just cancel it.

Would be an improvement.
